I have found that Porcupine Tree is one of the few groups that allow DVD-As to be copied to a DVD (Todd Rundgren is another). I used to use Dvd-next copy(?) for this. I had an '04 TL and fell in love with DVD-As. Bummed that my '15 TLX does not have this, as the '15 RDX I had as a loaner did.

Many of us do miss the DVD-A playability in the TLX.

I have created DTS-CDs from my Porcupine Tree DVD-A and Bluray collection.

Smile Beatles Love DVD-A is 5.1

Now the Blueray player in my computer does not play DVD Audio and I am wondering if this is the trouble. However, for each of these tracks Audio Extractor shows 6 channel sound. Anyone know what is going on or what I am doing incorrectly?
I have the Beatles Love DVD-A/CD combo back, and extracted the DVD-A using DVDAE. Yes, it was too big, so Using PowerISO (A very nice piece of software, ignore the trial warning about 300MB being the max, it can fill up a CD!), to break the disk in half (and cloning the .cue file to create a -1 and -2 title file pointing to the same .dtswav file) I found 6 channel sound on ALL the tracks. You can hear different instruments coming out of all the channels.

Was gonna get a 2015 RDX for the wife. It had DVD-A support, but saw the 2016 had all the cool features that the TLX has. However, it also does not support DVD-A.

Unhappy Blu-Ray copy problems

I really like the Diana Krall Live in Rio concert Blu-Ray. I used my trusty DVDAE to extract the files, and used my trusty PowerISO to make two DTS-CDs of it. First, the sound was a little scratchy, second there did not seem to be anything coming out of the rear speakers. I made sure I selected the 6CH tracks in DVDAE. Bummed.

I use DVD-AE to break up DVD-As (or other formats) just by checking the boxes next to the track to be copied to .wav file.

Every once in a while I have to re-create the wav file because they can be scratchy.

I just got the Trilogy Version of ELP's Trilogy set, comes with re-mixed to 6 channel DVD-A... creating the DTS-CD now to play on my cross town errand run

The 2016 ILX, and now the recently announced 2016 RDX, both support DVD-A discs with the ELS setup (although neither support DTS).

Not sure why there isn't some consistency across the Acura models for the ELS system- but maybe I'll just hang onto all my DVD-A discs for when my lease is up... in case the 2018 TLX has it again!

Convert your DVD-As to DTS-CDs. They sound just fine in my TLX. True 5.1 sound. And, if you look at Acura's site on the 2016 RDX Features, they say it supports DVD-A, and implies it is a multi-disc changer. Obviously that is incorrect.

I would if I could... I, too am a Mac guy, and neither my newer iMac nor my MacBook laptop have a place to stick those shiny discs into (everything is solid-state now!)

I don't have that many DVD-A's that make it worth it to buy a CD-burner and figure out if there is software to make it happen for the Macs...

No need. I'm a Mac guy too, and DVD Audio Extractor has a build for us. Works quite well.

Download DVD Audio Extractor
djsteve,

I have a MacBook Pro with an internal CD/DVD reader. Am I understanding correctly that this software will allow me to extract 5.1 audio files from , DVD, DVD-Audio and Bluray discs?

I also have a Denon Universal player. Is there a way to transfer audio files from the Denon to the Mac?

Thanks!

It works on a PC and is advertised for Mac and Linux. There is a 30 day trial so just download and try it.

Yes, that is correct. As was mentioned by another poster, it has a 30 day trial to test with.

You can transfer digital audio from your DVD player via its optical audio out and into the Mac's mic/audio input, which uses a 3.5mm "headphone" style plug but also has an optical receiver that can be used with a special cable. Check a reputable source such as monoprice.com for decently priced quality cables.

Thanks. That's the preferable transfer mode for me.

I have just tried to convert a couple of Blu-rays using the old setup but I seem to have trouble with copy protection. I had to download a new version of DVDFab9 and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have been using DVDFab9 with DVDAE. I cannot get DVDAE to work. It closes down. I tried using MakeMKV and it does create copies that are free of copy protection. But when I point to the file in DVDAE it doesn't show the chapters so I cannot pick chapters to burn.

dvdae problem(?)

Hi
I am considering a 2017 Acura MDX, I know that dvda will not be available, however I saw a few news releases that dts cd was supported. My problem is I have been trying to create DTSCD from DVD-audio's discs using DVD audio extractor and Nero. My results have been disappointing. Playback on my OPPO BDP-83 with these burned cd's are not very good, I am hearing alot of chirping and distortions (muddy and scratching kind of noise). Anyone have any ideas what I may be doing wrong? maybe my Home Theater?

I used DVDAE and PowerISO on my wife's PC, and the discs sound great in my '15 TLX. (However, I do miss the DVD-A that my '04 TL had!)
