Why buy TLX when you can buy 50K 2014 S4?

Saw the classified on Audizine. Why bother to buy a TLX that has transmission problems when you can afford to upgrade to S4.

2014 S4 Auto. NAV, B and O, Fine Nappa leather, Sports Differential. Like new, only 7500 miles. Dark Blue and black leather interior. Completely Stock. Email for photos and VIN. Just like looking at a new car and if you are on this forum you know what it looks like. No rush but you can make an offer. Much less than CarMax.

Go for it... I counted 24 used 2014/15 Audi S4's for sale each with less than 5,000 miles on them on cars.com. Take your pick.

Are you saying that USED car that cost $10K more has major engine problems more than average, has cooling problems above average, has fuel systems problems above average, smaller in size, more expensive to maintain is better?

Now tell me why would I want to buy USED car with a lot of known problems, smaller than TLX and more expensive?

I counted 30 TLX and gave up. LOL All with miles between 100-6000.

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/used/ac...pgId=2102&rn=0

And based on the Dealership listing them.
3 were traded for a Lexus
1 for an Infinti
1 for an Audi

Audi problems were overstated- non Audi owners hear it from someone who probably owned an Audi 10 years ago. Truth is Audi quality in recent years have been increasing. Dont really understand having a hard-on on Acura because of its value plays. I owned both a RDX and S4 but I always look back twice to the Audi in parking lot. TLX would be a great car five years ago but came a little too late.

Lets compare apples to apples. S4 used vs TLX used? Different price categories.

Buy the car you want. For some people, the S4 makes much more sense, and it's the far better car. For them. For others, the TLX will make more sense. Again, best car for them.

Why buy a car with a jerky transmission when you can buy a car that will stop working 100k earlier than the TLX? Kidding!

The Audi S4 in its current iteration is near the end of its life. The TLX is all new. That and also the fact that the car is used and still costs 10K more and the poor reputation that Audi has for reliability.

I do not owe TLX and do not consider buying one neither do I consider S4, but I understand having a hard on for reliability and value.

I gave you specific reasons why I wouldn't consider S4 over TLX. Why don't you give us cons for S4?

Also please tell me why would someone want to sell such a good, low miles, almost brand new car?

I owe 7 years old 3G TL that I would like to replace with Lexus but I just can't let it go because its been trouble free all this time.

All cars have issues. Regardless what it is, an S4 or a TLX or whatever. The important thing to consider is which manufacturer addresses the issues faster, proactively and with more confidence.

Not going to point fingers here or there, just consider that aspect when buying a car.

I can understand upgrading from Acura to a luxury car since I do not consider Acura a luxury brand but Audi is a different animal. But saying that Acura has a transmission problem while Audi is a great car with better reliability and it is only people that never had an Audi complain about it is a nonsense. Statistics say otherwise.

All but one of those cars is a 3.5 FWD car. From the many reviews I have read, this version ranks behind the 3.5 SH-AWD and the 2.4. The 9 speed transmission jerkiness is way overstated in this forum and interestingly not mentioned in numerous detailed reviews of the car. I own a 3.5 SH-AWD Tech and would not swap this car with an A-4 or 3 series or IS 250 or 350.

Starting this with reliability, isn't a great idea. TLX has been problematic since it rolled off the assembly line, based on which version TLX. An S4 in the TLX world would be the V6 AWD tech package. Here's the biggest difference in which why I won't let go of my TL unless I find an S4 with the package I want.

TLX only and is ONLY automatic.
S4 does offer manual (Huge plus for me)

TLX is still naturally aspirated
S4 has a smaller engine, but supercharged and makes more power (Huge plus for me)

Audi is know for their AWD, since it's on all their vehicles
Acura offers standard on some vehicles, you generally pay more for it when it's optional model.

Most won't care for this but for those that are still into performance oriented.

The TLX will have very limited aftermarket support for performance or parts
S4 has a ton of support including APR which is king for performance in the Audi world.

Interior leather color.
Acura still offers at least in the past if you have an advance package you get umber or the highest package.
Audi, it's easier to get a different color other than tan or black leather.

These are the little things that make buying a certain vehicle easier. In the end, it's whatever choice you make. Some people don't care about performance or having a manual, others do. This is why they make different vehicles.

Apples to apples comparison with used 50K S4: The price of most expensive SH-AWD TLX would be around 46500-47500 which I added an accessory wheel silver sparkling to compete with Audi. You still have to add extra cost to retrofit the TLX because of no exhaust. TLX hp is under 300 with no match to s4 spec.

Convincing enough? The S4 interior is top notch compared to TLX which have the same interior from 4 cylinder engine to V6 lineups. B&O sound system waay better than ELS. Audi interior is so quiet that you can reduce the cost basis of car by getting in their standard system.
How about regular maintenance, TLX needs to change oil every 3500 miles vs 7500 mark on Audi.
Execution? TLX launch was delayed but still did not get right of the transmission problems.

In the end. everybody has their own needs but just comparing visually a TLX-S againts a used Audi S4.

You seem to be assuming that we actually want an Audi. I do not! Not even an S4

I test drove an S4, it is a blast to drive, but it is small and cramped inside and the A/S4 reliability is far below average. As also previously stated the current A/S4 is near the end of it 7+ year model run and is does not do well in crash tests.

The answer to the OP's question is simple - because you have better things to do than sit around in a service department and driving service loaner vehicles. One German car dealer where I live leads it advertising by emphasizing they have the largest service department around and the largest service loaner fleet. When that is their lead, what does that tell you?

Why spend $50k on a S4 can you can get a 4G TL AWD 6MT for $30k?
Used 2010 Acura TL - in 92841 Area - Manual on Cars.com

The TL is more than capable of keeping up with the S4 on the track too:

Why spend $15-$20k more for similar performance?

Yes, and again, the TLXs reliability over the past, what, 6-8 months since it's debut has been nothing short of horrendous.

If there was an Audi badge on it, no one would be the wiser... except for the shitty materials, styling, performance...

Audi > Acura
