As of Feb 11th I'm a proud new owner of a 2015 sh-AWD with Tech package TLX. I choose the Pearl white/Espresso combo and LOVE the drive and attention I receive when sitting or driving behind the wheel. (It's crazy the way Honda,BMW and Merc owners speed up to stare)
The only issue so far is the erratic surge's in sport+ mode it feels like I have to hit the brakes to stop from rear ending another car. The acceleration is AMAZING!!! After upgrading from a 2012 Honda Crosstour I'm assuming I have to rethink my driving abilities or take my TLX to the dealership for service.
This is a Great Forum for TLX Owners!!! (I'll post up some pictures soon)
Are you talking about the car dowshifting when you're slowing down in Sport+ mode?
Sport+ mode is meant for sporty driving - and the transmission will downshift as you slow down - which causes the rpms to increase as you downshift. This is likely what you're experiencing when you say the car "surges" in Sport+ mode.
Completely normal behavior for Sport+ mode. If you don't like it - try driving in one of the other IDS modes.
What i mean is that when I'm driving in sport+ and go to apply the brake in order to stop at a traffic light the car starts to surge forward as if it doesn't want to stop. Maybe I need to use the paddle shifters in sport+?
^^ That has been documented - See the trouble section. Acura is aware and is doing a pretty good job at providing software updates to eliminate that problem...

Is it surging when you are braking from speed or is it surging when you are already stopped at the light?
In the first case, I think that is the ZF automatic's rev matching on downshifts in action.
If it is the second case, then that is definitely not normal and is something the dealer needs to look at.

I know this isn't the topic but had to mention I bought that exact same car on Feb 14th. So congratulations!! My favorite is the Espresso interior. Just amazing. Also, it does this:
How cool is that (well, if you are a Seahawks fan ). I came from an 06 TSX so I'm like a caveman being exposed to all this technology.

I don't use Sport Plus - and won't until spring, but my understanding is that you need to use the paddles.
Sport+ is extremely aggressive and not the best for daily driving. It shouldn't surge, but it's more aggressive and low gear rev happy than for daily use, where normal Sport mode works better.
Sport+ is fun at select times, but a bit much for normal use.

Correct - you use the paddles to shift. Not sure what happens when you peg the redline (didn't try) but I suspect it may shift by itself at that point - otherwise you're in complete control.
It's fun but you get a very slight delay in the shifts so it's not 100% like driving a MT - but useful for spirited driving nonetheless.
its funny to see 1louder active in the car forums.
congrats 1louder for your new purchase!!
Thanks! Actually was was somewhat active in the TSX forum for a while, but once I was done with my mods I didn't go there as much. So now it's mod time again....

Yes, its surging when Im stopped...The service manager called me today and said drop the car off in the morning its a serious issue. They also have a loaner ready for me......Looks like the fix may take awhile
^^It'll be interesting to see what they find. I am curious why you feel that it has anything to do with the transmission? I think that when you wrote, "erratic surge's in sport+ mode it feels like I have to hit the brakes " people assumed it was when you were coasting down vs. already at a stop. So technically you're not 'hitting the brakes' cause you're already on them (at a stop), but you are forced to press harder to stop forward motion? It sounds like an engine ECU issue with the idle speed? You don't have this effect in other modes?
Ok, I dropped of my TLX this morning and had a nice chat with the Service manager and discussed the issues....btw he drives an advance with the body kit and deck lid.....Very nice setup
Battery issue- He stated that the TLX battery is supplied by a 3rd party vendor at the factory and seems not to be too reliable. The car will sit on the dealer lot for weeks or months at a time so by the time the car is purchase by the
customer there maybe a potential problem.
Erratic shifting in Normal & Sports IDS Apparently this is my probably problem. The cause was the replacement of the new battery. He stated that the TLX had to relearn the shifting patterns and that the car had to be driven at least 25miles (I thought this was odd because I still had the issue and informed him that I drive from home to work last night then home to the dealership this morning and totaled 29miles. i also asked verify that all software updates and /or patches are performed.
Sport+ IDS - This mode is designed and meant to only be driven with the sport shift paddles....period
Service manager stated he will call me today with an update and I should be able to pick up the car this evening.
As an extra bonus the manager offered me the purchase and install of the body kit for $1,900. This sounded tempting but I'm not sure i want to put that much money into a leased vehicle.
I'll keep you posted with any new information i get.

Looks NICE!!! I'd need a NY JETS logo on screen (looking for a winning season before 2020 LOL

Thanks! I loaded a few different ones - kind of fun to be able to customize it. Just put the pictures on a flash drive (root directory, it' can't read folders), and import is a snap. It's a bit fussy about the resolution - would not load a few of the pics. The manual says it will accept 4800 x 4800. It looks much sharper in person and in better light. Cell phone camera is junk.
Update: Ok this maybe my last update for a for days maybe weeks....No one knows
My service adviser called to inform me to hold on to the loaner for a few days... A tech is working with Acura to resolve the issue. The adviser stated Acura wanted detailed diagnostics to perform updates. Looks like I'll be getting cozy with this rough-riding 4cyl front wheel drive ILX at least until sometime next week..
Good Lord when will the downward spiral end....Hopefully my car is on the road to technical recovery....

Best of luck with the recovery. Hopefully your TLX is up and running soon!
Good News!!
I picked up my TLX and its running like the luxury car its suppose to be. The jerky surging tranny upon braking & abnormal shifting issue has been resolved.
My service advisor explained that the ATF fluid was replaced,ECU updated & a shift relearning was performed on the advice of Acura.
My understanding is that the problems with transmission are not unique to the TLX. The Jeep Cherokee uses the same transmission. Some of the problems reported aren't actually problems. Rather, they are caused by the unique difference of the dog-clutch transmission used by the ZF 9HP transmission.

Now where is that spring weather..lol
Signed
Back on the road!!
I am having the exact same problem as you did with my 2016 MDX and the 9 speed transmission. Are you still good to go with the fix?
I drive in sport+ all the time but only use the paddles when I want specific control.
This is what the service manager told when I was having the issue's. Due to the fact that the current street conditions & snow in NY are terrible I haven't had the pleasure to play with the sports+ mode since I got my car back.
There may be differences between different ZF applications that's why I asked. In my case with the car in sport+ & the stick over to the left calls in a different (Max Performance) program for the paddles than if you use the paddles in sport+, sport, comfort or econ with the stick in the default position.
I realize you don't have a stick but wondered if there were a separate button or something to duplicate that function.
