TLX Type S is coming

Frankly, I'd love to see you prove me wrong.
But I like my chances of being right here. I mean the chances that someone, who spends so much time on a forum about a $35K+ car that he doesn't like, can actually comfortably afford the next NSX with his own money is slim, IMO.

See PM for proof.

I can't agree. At least TLX is a 'sport luxury sedan'.
And Acura did put much effort on advocating TLX GT. It means they want their potential customers to have an impression that TLX is sporty.

The upcoming C&D, R&T & MT reviews will do a lot to shape public opinion on what the TLX is actually perceived as.
Was very disappointed that Honda was not able to have a car ready for the annual Lightning Laps.

And for the record, he didn't convince me I was wrong with his PM.

It's just probabilities. Someone who would *seriously* consider a ~$130K sports car and who can actually COMFORTABLY (e.g. not spend half of his savings) afford one would most likely not drive ~$40K cars and regularly lurk in forums about a sedan of that price range.
And for the record, he didn't convince me I was wrong with his PM.

With the numbers you posted above, I can buy a NSX with cash and still have 6 figures in my account.
What car do you drive? Do you have more that what the car is worth in your savings? Prove it.

1. You would be surprised at some of the people that come here.
2. You would be surprised at some of the people that own 35k vehicles.
3. You are a complete asshat.

For some people a car is a status symbol to show others how successful they are. It may be a true image (50% of their yearly salary) or a false image (financed to poverty) to make them feel secure. And then there are people who are VERY wealthy yet don't give a hoot about cars. They just want something safe, functional and reliable to get around in. Cars are not a reliable way of judging peoples finances.
Most of the people I know that drive luxury cars have a "middle to upper middle class" income. (Hate using that word "class") The majority of ultra-rich people I know drive very normal cars and have a low-profile lifestyle. A few of them do have exotics, Bentley, Aston Martin, etc. The richest person I know drives a Nissan Murano. He's been a millionaire 30+ yrs. trust me he could drive any Lambo/Ferrari he wants. He's owned a lot of cars back in the day but says that he prefers cars like the Murano because are the only reliable ones, lol. I just wants to get where he's going, park it anywhere in the city and not have hassles or anything slowing him down. I could see him buying a TLX. So yes there could be people who buy a TLX and could easily buy an NSX if they wanted to. Yes, comfortably with cash.
So don't assume you know who can afford what based on what they drive. Our culture encourages us to judge others on their superficial qualities. But I've found time and time again it's easy to be wrong about that. As a matter of fact any external factor, their clothes, house etc are doesn't work either.
The only way you could really know is by actually looking in their bank account.

calm down guys and let's not get this personal.
I bet you all have seen lots poor people drive around with a Beemer and some very rich people stick with a Honda or Toyota. so do not judge a book by it's cover.

That's always fun stuff to read about but the study is pretty skewed.
"But what that analysis also told me was that 61 percent of people who earn $250,000 or more aren’t buying luxury brands at all. They’re buying the same Toyotas, Hondas and Fords as the rest of us."
I'll wager that someone making $250,001 who has a family of four and lives in California is buying a Honda/Toyota/Ford because it's what they can afford. Meanwhile a single person making $250,001 who lives in NE OH can drive whatever car (within reason) they want.
Still - I'll wager the majority of people who are saavy enough to make a good living (relative to the cost of living) are also savvy enough to consider what the best value is when it comes to putting money into something that depreciates as much as a car does - that's why Toyota and Honda sell as many cars as they do.

There will always be people that buy above their means or below.
I think in general the super rich have crazy cars. The moderately rich drive pretty normal cars. Middle class drives the same normal cars, etc. As I said you will always have people buying outside their financial zone. I would be willing to bet more people buy above their means than below.
All speculations. I'm middle class part time job with a 30 thousand dollar car... Id consider that outside my means as of this moment, but slowly getting easier and easier.

....well I can say that I am in a financial situation where I could drive something much nicer than an Acura but I don't. I am very responsible with my money (and why I am doing so well) but to me, I will not pay much more for a name....I buy something that I need and want....what other people will think of me by buying it.
I really like Acura products but I LOVE my dealership and the people working there. To me, that is a HUGE part of why I drive Acura years after years. I got a quote for an Audi S3 the other for 56k + tax this other day!! How can I justify paying that much when I can get a much better equipped and reliable TLX for even less money?!?
Thats just me though....but I can attest that many many times, I have been to a dealership and been ignored because I roll in with my Hyundai Accent yet if they only knew how much money I have *lol*

To me, Acura is a better value.

I went with my brosef to the local lotus dealership.. he has a beat up 99 civic. Nobody would even talk to us.. then when we got someone's attention.. they wouldn't let us test drive an elise.. we were like fuck this. Went to Audi, test drove and RS5, bought it cash.

I would be so upset if I was just ignored because they thought I couldnt purchase a car.
Didnt get that at my Acura dealer, but its only an Acura. When I went in with the Acura it seemed like the random sales guys ignored me but my sales guy jumped up when he saw me and even askedif he could check it out since he knew I had modded the previous Acura.
I would have driven back to the Lotus dealership in the new car and when someone asked if I needed help I would have said, "Yeah I wanted to see who the first asshole would be to think Mr Money Bags over here would actually buy a car from you after assuming was I was poor yesterday. I bought that thing cash, would have done the same here but you lost out on some commission because you're a pompous ass wipe."
I then would have proceeded to burn out in the driveway... as long as I still have dealer plates.

It happens.. that's the dealership's fault for hiring assholes. Nothing against Lotus.. honestly.. it was too small for my ass to fit in anyways..
The salesman even sat in the back of the RS5.. it was tight but the sacrifice paid off with a sale.
Even happened to Oprah not so long ago.. a purse of course.

On your appointment time, you'll see 2-3 cars in the front waiting for you to compare, test drive, etc etc.

Pssh... you won't catch me driving anything but the most elite of vehicles which is why I drive an Acura. I toyed with the idea of downgrading to the Astons and Porsches of the world, but heh ... no.
Actually, I grew up and lived in Houston. I moved to Dallas. Traffic here sucks, too. I sure wish I wasn't scared of snow. I could move someplace where there is less traffic and has seasons. lol.

^^ Well, you should move up here! I have over 2 acres, no street lights in my subdivision, can drive to work without seeing 1 traffic light and maybe 5-10 cars on my way in!
This is the paradise except snow in the winter of course...

I live in the Houston area and can't remember the last time I was very far inside the beltway, definitely not on the loop! I live where the outer beltway is going in.. 30 miles from downtown
