TLX/9 Speed SH-AWD & Car wash attendants

Kind of dangerous to let these morons, maneuver my ride.
Unless you sit in the vehicle, neutral becomes useless
If you open the door, you have to re-adjust
Subsequently, you have to put the car in Neutral; within 5 seconds, turn the vehicle off.
It stays in Accessory mode for 15 minutes, & then reverts to Park.
Moral of the story; sit in the car while being cleaned, or risk some idiot damaging the tranny, or something worse
Truth be told, it's a serious blunder on Acura's part; too complicated, for attendants to master
Thoughts?

From the manual:

Car Wash Mode
Follow the procedure below to use a conveyor-style car wash where you or an
attendant do not remain in the vehicle. Make sure the wiper lever is in the OFF
position. You should inform the car wash attendant of this procedure.
1. When the engine is running, apply the brake pedal and select Neutral (N).
2. Within 5 seconds, press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The vehicle goes into
Accessory mode.
This mode lasts for 15 minutes before the gear changes to Park and the vehicle
turns off

Correct; except that I tried explaining that to the attendant, & I ended up having to sit in the car, because he couldn't comprehend the directions I gave him
Lesson learned

It would be nice to have a selectable car wash mode since Acura seems worried about having the car in Neutral for any length of time. I guess they are worried we'd use N differently with the push button than with the stick. It is strange to have it this way, just like having to push on the brake to switch from N to D not from R to D

I agree. It is hard to explain the car wash mode to owners the first time, let alone a car wash attendant.

Maybe this is Acura's way of saying never let someone else wash the car for you

I did test what happens when you leave the seat belt buckled. Then it will in fact stay in neutral when you open the door. However, my car wash guys know me and are getting to know the car, and they ride through with it (their own choice) rather than risk any problems.

I agree. I just buckle up before I open the door to leave the car, tell them not to undue the seatbelt or they will break the transmission and then stand and watch until they exit the vehicle. So far so good.

Way to avoid having to use "car wash mode": Wash your own vehicle by hand! =) Your car and it's paint will thank you!

All of the car washes near me are "conveyor style", and the car is supposed to go through with no one inside.

The issue here is that I have to stop and exit the vehicle about 20 feet before the car goes on the wash conveyor, (in a pre-stage area where all the doors are opened, and the car is first vacuumed by several workers). If I put the car into "car wash mode" at that point, the car shuts off, and must be re-started after vacuuming to move it to the conveyor system, where THEN some random ATTENDANT (I'm not allowed in the area) must put it into "car wash mode".
Haven't been able to find a car wash where I can reliably communicate this procedure, due to language differences and understanding.

"Luckily" for me, I have had so many software updates; diagnostic visits, and fixes for my V6 TLX, that I have had about a dozen free washes from my dealer so far!!

My car wash allows a driver to remain in the car only after 7:00pm...So it seems like I'll be cleaning my own interior then rolling to the car wash after 7pm if I'm to lazy to do it myself.

I'd never get out of my car and let someone else do that. Hell no.
