Roof Rack(Bike)?

Anyone install a roof rack on their TLX yet? I want one for my mountain bike. I believe yakima is the only company making them, but i could be wrong.

I just came from Mineola bike shop looking to pick up the cannondale trail 6 and I wanted to pick up a Thule roof rack. The salesman checked inventory and to see if he could order one..But said nothing is available yet ......

Yeah its annoying, but im also a little nervous as these racks can really bring down the MPG. In some cases 5-8 MPG, and thats without a bike. With a bike can bring it down well over 10-15

I'm sitting on the fence as to which kind of rack I want to use.

Re: the roof rack, I'm just not sure I want to put a rack up there (nearly) full-time because of mileage, the risk of marring the roof paint/door seals, and.... I'm just not sure if it looks good because I'm loving the look of the car without it. I have a Yakima rack on my old car, so I'm hoping I just need to buy new towers but use the same rails/trays if I go this route.

Re: a hitch rack, I've been looking at this hitch at etrailer which just came out but there are no reviews or customer feedback yet. I know a lot of people have hitch racks on their older TL's and this might be the way to go for me since it will be easier to remove.

I had a CURT hitch installed on my TLX.

CURT Manufacturing - CURT Trailer Hitch #11409

I purchased the 1UP USA bike rack that easily folds up and goes into the trunk and can accommodate 1 bike or 2 with the add-on, which also folds nicely for storing in the trunk.

https://www.1upusa.com/product-quikrackblack.html

I have used this solution since my 2012 TL. Works great and I highly recommend it for ease of use and quality.

Just to give you a base for comparison: a roof rack on a 3G TL dropped MPGs to 26-27 MPG without bikes (EPA is 29-30, some have gotten well over the EPA). With 2 bikes, MPGs dropped to 22-24 MPG.

There is a possibility that the car may handle a little squirrel if the load behind the car is heavy enough (ie hitch rack, with two heavy mountain bikes).

Hey, boomvader, this looks like a great system. I have the 2015 TLX SH-AWD Advance and was wondering if this rack interferes with the backup sensors when there's no bike on it and it's folded up (i.e. folded up to the bumper)?

Also, does it affect the handling of the car when you have the bike on? And how far does the hitch stick out from under the bumper?
