Rear leg room

Hi,

Can anyone pls explain why TLX has less leg room compared to accord which has 4 inch more leg room while having same wheelbase? And ILX which has 4 inch less wheelbase also has almost same rear leg room as TLX?

Thanks,
Alpha0

That's a difficult question to answer without knowing the design decisions behind what constrains the cabin room. If I had to take a guess, the ILX is a full 10" shorter car than the Accord, so they have to make that up somewhere. As for the TLX, I would suspect the fact that the design must account for the SH-AWD variant, and that drive train may put limitations on how var back the seats can be.

It is probably related to a number of different things like exterior/interior design choices, along with probably accommodating the TLX also having AWD amongst other things.

The Accord is cavernous, but honestly the TLX is very comfortable back there, the TLX feels smaller when driving which in my mind is a plus, the Accord feels more boat-like, I am exaggerating this but as compared to the TLX it is. I find the TLX is pretty much the perfect size, this coming from a family of 4.

One thing is that the front seat goes back further and has a thicker seat back. But it is still rather puzzling. The TLX also has a more slopey roof which may dictate mounting the seat base further forward. The Accord is very spacious back there of course (but the prev gen was better).

I think you hit the nail on the head with the roofline.

^^^ I also think this. We've only had ours a little more than a week, but bumping your head on back seat entry is more of a nuisance than room in the back. Once you're in, it's quite comfortable back there (and I'm over 6' tall). Once you get the technique for entry, it's not bad. But if the seat were even farther back, it would be even more of a problem.

I had a 13 Accord Sport and now a 15 TLX. To me the whole interior is a bit smaller. Plus the trunk for sure.

Aye - I actually like the smaller cabin feel of the TLX vs my 13 Accord EXL. It feels more "sporty" if that makes any sense. The Accord cabin is big and spacious and big and roomy - no doubt - but I prefer a more enclosed cabin. I think the TLX nailed it in that regard.

i heard a lot about how deep the trunk is also which begs me think Acura put considerable thought when shrinking the back seats for a longer front and trunk.
