Paint Chipped please help
Paint Chipped please help
Something hit the front hood while driving down the highway. The paint is chipped and the sheetmetal underneath is visible. The chip is really small. about 2mm wide. How can I fix this?
Can I fix it myself (have no experience fixing paint chips)?
I have a Black Copper Pearl TLX. where can I get touch up paint and kit?

<p>you can get touch up paint from the Dealership.</p><p>although, if and when you apply the TUP, it wont come out great looking. it'll look like a giant blob. you can try using a toothpick to apply, but it still wont look great.</p><p>unless, after drying you take a machine polisher and some polishing compound to it.</p>
I wouldn't polish it out. You'll decrease the size of the blob, but you'll also cut down the clear coat surrounding the area big time. Not worth it.
What you can try is using painters tape and taping off nicely around the paint chip. Apply the TUP and then try to reduce the size of the blob overall. It still won't look perfect, but it should end up being a bit better than just slapping the TUP on.
That being said, if you want to protect the paint, get 3M (or whatever other brand) film applied to the front of your car. It's worth it's weight in gold, especially if you do the whole front end- bumper, hood, headlights, fenders, mirrors, A-pillars and roof line above the windshield.

<p></p><p>PC 7424XP will not burn through paint or clear coat. argument is invalid. <img alt="" src="https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/embarrassment.gif" title="<img src=" /></p>
Check out in your area for Dr. Colorchip. This company goes around to dealerships to repair rock chips. They do a great job and you can hardly notice the repair unless someone actually points it out. If you live in a gravel road area and/or tend to get lots of rock chips, I would suggest a hood deflector.
Wait, what? So it will cut down on a paint blob, but it won't cut down on anything surrounding it? How does that work? Seriously curious!

One more thing about Dr. Colorchip. I would suggest that you wait until you have 3 or more rock chips. Yes, they will happen, because the more chips you get done at the same time, the cheaper the price. Last time I had a professional do some rock chips, he charged me $25 for the first one and then $10 for each one afterwards. But seriously, unless someone pointed out the repair, you really could not see it.
I've done the "toothpick" method on two stone chips. Yes - they aren't perfect and depending on the angle you can easily see them. But - unless you're super anal it's good enough - at least it is for me. Just be careful and add a little at a time, don't be afraid to have to do multiple coats in order to build up to the surrounding paint.
Then go on with your life and don't stress over it!
I got my paint from the Internet - cheaper than going to the local dealer. Google the part number for your paint color and you should get multiple options for purchase. You can check the AZ vendor list too.

I've used Langka. It is a solvent that you rub over the 'blob' of paint to bring it level to the surface. Works pretty well on larger chips. On very small chips it can pull the paint out of the chip.
If the chip really is down to the metal, I'd get some primer on that ASAP. It is probably not down to the bare metal.
