OBD Port Security

Just read an article on start button cars in London being stolen by having the OBD port accessed and a special tool from dealerships being used to start the cars without the key fob.
The article went on to say that OBD port locks are being sold to combat these thefts.
Has anyone seen or used one?

Isn't it that the OBD-II port will only be enabled and communicates with external (plug-in) device, only when the matching key fob is present and the ignition is at the ACC or ON position ?

Not to worry... mostly BMW's problem. Explanation here:

Clifford Car Alarms UK : BMW OBD Port Theft - How to protect your car

I read between the lines... I get the feeling BMW has on purpose build-in a "back door" to their security system for other reasons? Perhaps the hackers are exploiting that "back door".

Interesting.
The article did call out BMW specifically.
