Next Gen TLX

Found this article speaking to the next gen Honda vehicles:

Honda Worldwide | February 24, 2016 "Summary of Honda CEO Speech on February 24, 2016"

The interesting blurb to me was:

CR-V and Accord:
The next generation CR-V and Accord also will adopt the new platform and a downsized turbo engine and be introduced as products with further refined design and driving performance.

So the next Gen Accord will get a small displacement turbo charged engine. Makes me wonder if the next gen TLX won't see the same only perhaps with more displacement/hp? Makes perfect sense - no?

Just saw this too:

China:
Production will be expanded along with the introduction of key new models such as a large-sized SUV which is scheduled to be announced this year under the Honda brand and an all-new Acura compact SUV, etc.

Interesting.

It's pretty clear the turbos are coming to Honda, and Acura announced about a year ago that it would always get the best versions of Honda engines. So I think you're right about where this is headed. Honda already has a 1.5T in the Civic and the much more powerful 2.0T in the Civic Type-R. That probably covers the range. I fully expect to see a detuned 2.0T in the next round of Acura sedans, probably starting with the ILX which should go onto the new Civic's platform ASAP. It could even arrive in this generation of the TLX, with the current I4/8DCT drivetrain moving into the Accort Sport. Honda usually doesn't move that quickly though, so I wouldn't bet on it.

I suspect you are correct. Perhaps the 2.0 turbo goes into the TLX, which would make a nice replacement in a couple of years.

I could see both the accord and TLX using the same turbo'd engine, however, with the TLX version having the boost cranked up a notch or two. I'd be surprised if they used a different engine altogether. Not that they can't, but it's a lot cheaper to mass produce a tune for two different boost levels, as opposed to putting in a different engine altogether.

I really do not see the TLX getting the CTR setup. It's meant for a entirely different driving style, where it makes it's power up top in the RPM range. Most people don't go hooning their TLX everyday. Maybe if a Type S version came out, but otherwise, I dunno. I'd be surprised.

What I heard is that there will probably be a 2.5L I5 turbo engine for the Acura line up.

yea but it's only a rumor. The idea is that it will be lighter than a V6TT so less mass up front for better weigh distribution, while being smoother and more powerful than a 2.0T.

I'm going to miss the sweet J35; enjoy the V6's while they last boys! I'm glad I decided to get a TLX V6 because I knew the engine would go away sooner or later.

One of the advantage of going to all Turbos, we can hopefully eliminate this threads about "should I put regular or supreme" (lol)

Waitasec! "...and an all-new Acura compact SUV..." Could that be the long-speculated CDX (or whatever it's called) that slots below the RDX? Made in China and exported to the U.S.? Like the Buick Envision? Hmmm. Well, they have 20 months to get it together, as that's when the lease on my TLX is up, October 2018. Then it'll be a small high-seat crossover for me. Right now, at the low end it's the Mazda CX5 and at the high end a BMW X1. (We already have an RDX - don't need two of those.)

C'mon Acura, what's it gonna be?

Also, Acurazine-ers, is there General Talk forum in here like on VTEC.net? My addled brain hasn't found it yet.

I forsee a 2.0 to 3.0L V6 with cylinder deactivation. Acura got really screwed with the RDX 2.4L 4cyl. engine.

I'd like to see (or, you know, dream):

2.0L Turbo I4 for ILX.

2.0L Turbo I4 for ILX Type S (CTR tune for regular ILX engine)

2.8L Turbo V6 for TLX, RDX, and maybe future CLX (a guy can dream )

3.0L Turbo V6 for TLX Type S, and hey, RDX Type S (why not!) and maybe future CLX Type S? (Bored version of 2.8L) (Fuck yeah!)

3.0L Turbo V6, from Type S, slightly detuned, for MDX, RLX (bored out version again).

Only two engines, really. So doable.

Or if Acura would splurge, have three engines, like this:

2.0L Turbo I4 for ILX.

2.0L Turbo I4 for ILX Type S (CTR tune for regular ILX engine)

2.8L Turbo V6 for TLX, RDX, and maybe future CLX (a guy can dream )

3.0L Turbo V6 for TLX Type S, and hey, RDX Type S (why not!) and maybe future CLX Type S? (Bored version of 2.8L) (Fuck yeah!)

3.2L Turbo V6, from Type S, slightly detuned, for MDX, RLX (not just a bored out version again, but rather, another new engine).

It looks like the compact SUV is staying in China for now.

We're looking at the CX-5 to replace the Wife's Mazda 3. Or maybe go big and get a Honda Pilot.

Have 2 AWD EX Pilots in the family. Very good general use SUV with lots of upscale features.

Thanks Kevin - I like the looks of the latest model. The wife wants more room to haul the grandkids around in but I'm hesitant to get something too nice as they're all boys and tend to beat the crap out of anything they come close to

Just wrap the grandkids in shrink wrap before letting them sit in the vehicle. No arm movement and no leg movement means a pristine interior!

She wouldn't let me do that. And it's not just the interior - they've put numerous dings and scratches on her car. They're like Tasmanian devils.

You mean like throwing pebbles in the direction of the car and put tiny dings on the hood. . Granddaughter was ~ 6-7, in case you are curious she made it to 13 last January.
