Liked the TLX but ended up purchasing alternate vehicle
Test drove the TLX on Saturday. I had already driven the 6 but wanted to drive the 4. Was a very enjoyable ride. I liked the weight and pull of the 6 better than the 4 but for a 4 it seemed very good. I had also test driven some turbo 4s from Cadillac and Mercedes. The Caddy seemed stronger but the TLX was close. The Mercedes was horribly loud and unsophisticated.
Anyway, I was very interested in the TLX. Couple of things spurned me away from the vehicle:
- It looks so much better in person but still just 'OK'. Nothing striking or dramatic about it. I know looks are in eyes of the beholder but compared to its peers I think it is too bland.
- Price and Options. It is selling so well (and that is excellent for Acura so I am pleased) that dealers just won't deal at all. Inventory on colors is horrible and I live in a major metro area with multiple Acura dealerships. I wanted to pick my color (inside and out) and get a fair deal and couldn't get either. And I don't have time to wait until later in 2015.
- I own two Hondas and the more recent ones have nagging quality issues. Nothing major, but annoying bugs or production deficiencies and Honda has not been apologetic at all. Have had multiple dealers say "well, that's just how it was designed".
I ended up getting a Q50. Yes, I have read the forums and know the horror stories on the Apps and smell. But I have had good experience with high quality Infinitis in the past, have what i consider a fair and partnering dealership if I have issues, and I was able to get the price (for both my new car and trade-in) and color (inside and out) for my car that I wanted. Overall it was just a more pleasant experience and I truly feel like I purchased a 'luxury' car.
Anyway, I wish all here the best as I still do like the TLX and hope it succeeds as I love competition and quality.

Did you really mean "later in 2015"? I was hoping for better color selections and at least some kind of discount by the end of 2014.

Guess that means no. Oh well, I can wait.
Or get the new generation Genesis.

Congrats and enjoy your new ride!!
There's a black Q50 a couple stalls down from me in my parking garage and it's a handsome (subdued like the TLX) car for sure.
For the record Acura Dealers *will* come down off MSRP if they have to in order to sell you a car.

That said - coupled with the $1,000 I get for the Acura Advantage program I'm happy with my deal and real happy with the car

I would not expect much discount on the TLX until there is inventory. Supply and demand. I looked on the local Infiniti website and they have 25 Q50's on hand. That is a lot of overhead, so yeah, they will deal. My Acura dealer had 5 TLX's as of yesterday.

Congrats on the Q50!
From the way you wrote your post, it sounded like you 'settled' for the Q because of your local Acura dealerships' lack of inventory (did not have the color / combo choice that you wanted) and unwillingness to deal.
Post pictures of the Q.

Now that I think about it, $1000 discount on a car you really like, in the color/option package you want, with great resale value (trusting you guys on this one), and somewhat value priced to start with, may not be such a bad deal. It's worth a little to me to be the new kid on the block.
By the way, STEW4HD, I checked the three dealers within about 30 mi. of me here. in So California and they had a total of 43 (15, 14 and 14). Perhaps the supply is starting to pick up.

Team Banzai....Congrats on your Q50 and your fair assessment of the TLX. I liked how you said that for you, the TLX wasn't your thing but didn't bash the car in general.
Keep us posted and post pics....

[QUOTE=Stew4HD;15162799]You've lost me on that one. *shrug*[/QUOTE
I was meaning that a new car has passed hundred of hours of testing on several driving conditions. But ordinary people find flaws in cars that supposedly all
these test are for.

You have heard of the thing called "recalls" They are to fix dangerous life threatening issues that the wise kids in engineering & design missed. The light duty misses are the stuff of forums & bitches to the service advisors.

I doubt any car in history has been released that the final beta testers, the early purchaser, did not turn up something that the developers missed.

I drove my buddies Q50S and it definitely is a sweet ride. Handling is awesome, suspension is sporty and not too rough. I like how the seatbelt doesn't nag you with chimes and bells.

Last year, before the Q50 came out, I was convinced that my next car would be the Q50. On paper, it checked lots of boxes for me:
- Good power, fast car
- More space than G37
- Nice styling
- Fold down rear seats on the upper trim levels
Unfortunately, after I took my test drive, I took it off of my shopping list altogether, because of the steer-by-wire feature and the Bose sound system, which was very poor when compared to the ELS system. These were deal breakers for me. Now I think that I have found most of what I have been looking for in the TLX! :-)
Different strokes for different folks - glad that the Q50 suits you better - enjoy!

The Q50 was on my list of cars to buy and had it not had the electronics problem, I'd have bought it over the TLX. I wanted to wait for the 2015's to see if they fixed the backup lines, added the promised apps, and whatever electronic glitches were left, but I just ran out of time. I really thought hard about buying the hybrid version. Great mileage and hauls butt. The only negatives were the back seat didn't fold down from what I recall (not that huge a deal), but it had a small trunk, too. Oh well, maybe in another 7-10 years I'll look into Infiniti. In any case, congrats!
