so far the only exterior difference are the wheels and the extra tiny exhaust pipe hiding beneath the rear bumper on the driver side if you have a V6. i don't know why Acura does that. most other car brands all have some exterior visual traits to tell apart a lower trim to a higher one.

not sure if it would make any difference.

I hate when cars have V6 or engine size logo on the back and door.

I wouldn't mind some styling cues to show the differences like Acura did with the 09'-'11 SH-AWD quad tips and the lip spoiler for the MMC Tech and Advance, then the special wheels on the SH-AWD Advance. I am sure there were more cues told us the differences.

Sadly, Acura chose to only use the wheels to differentiate 4cyl from 6cyl then a badge to show SH-AWD. I would have liked more as well.

Like for the Accord coupe, I can tell from way off which model it is (4cyl or 6cyl)

if TLX had any exhaust tips, that would make a different.

1 exhaust for 4 cy. and 2 for V6 but TLX got none

I don't disagree, Tony. I am okay without the tips but would like to have them if I had the choice.

It'd be nice to see more wheel options - the SHAWD at least should have different wheels.

Is this need to see the difference a desire to show off what you have or to know what the other person has? An SH-AWD already has the badge. If you have a V6 P-AWS and want to show off that you have a V6 then purchase and install the V6 badge that is on the RLX.

If there are sensors on the front bumper, it's definitely not the I4.

No, I wouldn't say "show off" per say. I don't drive a TLX, but the odd time I do see one I'd like to know what it is. It's always cool to see a top of the line model since there's so little of them out there, regardless of the car.

Same goes for the Accord coupe.. You used to be able to distinguish between a v6 auto and 6mt. Not the case anymore.

But knowing top of the line model is a completely different question. The top line model is the SHAWD Advance/Elite. Visually there is no way to know the difference between the Tech and Advance/Elite with the SHAWD. But the original question was the difference between the non SHAWD models.

What would be good for the TLX are tire options. Sucks buying a car then going out & buying a new set of tires to get decent ones.

Been there, done that, got the tires a few times.

As much as I love my TLX, I do agree with you on this.

I wished that the 4 cylinder model would look like the V6 model now, with the 18" wheels as standard. Then for the V6 model I would like to see fancier wheels (19") and other upgraded trims. In fact, it would have been so nice if the SH-AWD Elite model would look just like the Prototype.... oh, I am dreaming again :-)

The 4 cyl has dual exhausts.
It seems Honda, Acura and Lexus generally don't make much of trim levels, although Honda does like V6 emblems. You need to be a wheel design expert most times.

no, me neither. but some kind of subtle body kit or a 3.5 emblem rather than the V6 would certainly help. or simply show the tailpipes on the V6 models.

or simply just show the exhaust tips for the V6 models only, leave the I4 hidden.

Or show the exhaust tips on the I4 for the volume seller / drivers that want to show off something that makes no difference to how the car drives, and hide them for the V6 owners who know where design trends are going. ducking for the nearest underground cover

I have the 2.4, but I know if I spent let's say close to 40g I want something a bit extra special. Not only exterior but interior wise which I think is part of the problem people have. Especially better bits inside as compared to the cheaper 2.4.

My only thing would be having standard 18" on the 2.4.

I personally like the fact that Acura doesn't badge things to the nines…..like Chevy or CHrysler or Nissan….other than the SH-AWD, which is a type of marketing. Consider Acura to be more of an egalitarian company that appeals to people who place value and performance over badges. Isn't that one of the reasons why we don't pay 5-10k more for an equivalent BMW or Mercedes or Infiniti?

When I see another TLX, i just honk and wave, without needing to know what trim level he/she has. BTW, as I have the 2.4 17 inch rims on my snow tires, I get the best of both worlds
