Hi all - silly question but wanted to ask. Do Honda/Acura support coding like BMW does, allowing you enable features that are disabled by default? I think its cool you can do this with a BMW and would be cool if we could do it to the tlx. Google BMW coding if you want to see some examples.

 

Can you give us an example of a feature that is disabled that you would want enabled in a bmw as you speak of? I googled it briefly but curious what specific features you would want to change

 

I just watched this video, looks like neat stuff. I wonder if we could recode things, and if there is anything worth while that wouldnt void the warranty. Interesting find!

 

the problem is; everything is unlocked from the acura factory.

acura only has like 2 packages and they dont limit software features, like the above video


if however, acura chose to give ALL cars backup cams, but only enabled them on the top package, then you could use "coding" to enable that....

Similarly for Audi vehicles, the VAG scantool allows Audi owners to code whatever they want inside their vehicles that can be controlled electronically.

 

My friend has an Audi and did this coding as well.
Would be nice if we could do this to our beloved Acuras

 

Many of the items listed by Bear are already available for change under settings. The only items that come to mind that many drivers would like are:

- option to change the default for Idle-Stop
- option to change the default for Brake Hold

I do not really feel like I am missing anything significant.

 

Those two plus LKAS. I don't understand why Acura doesn't remember the last setting. Oh well.

 

My personal list above about 30% of the available items on the master list. Some master list items were on my car from the factory & others I did not want.

Example:

Is already on my car. List covers things that are available across the line from 320 stripper through 435M Sport & across trim levels within the model #'s so the base cars can get many features standard equipment on the upper trim versions.

Did not want:

q Increase Angel Eyes Brightness to 100% with Headlights on
q Tilt Passenger Mirror farther down when in reverse
q Video-in-Motion activated

And so on.

 

The german cars tend to have software settings that are different for different markets.

On my Audi for example, I used a VAGCOM cable, and coded my windows so that I could both lower, and raise them from the remote. That's a euro setting that probably wouldn't fly in litigious happy USA, so its intentionally disabled for our market.

Ive also done alot of mods like disable seatbelt, and door open chimes, changing the parking lights up front, activated dash indicators for the headlights etc, etc all through software setting changes. There are many many more from adjusting lamp brightness through disabling TPMS.

 

Changing the 3 blinker turn signal to 5 or 6 would be great i find by the 3rd blink im barely out of my own lane.

And also to program to be able to roll the windows up and moon roof closed from the keyfob would be cool, I know we can make them go down but not up

Agree on the blinker sequence. That & the brake lights are what got me to look at coding. Never did any before outside of ECU performance flashing.

Don't know what the no close on fob as standard is all about.

My 135is which is one model year older came stock with open/close windows & convertible top on the fob. The 2011 coupe also had full window/moonroof open/close.

 

Lexus allows for changing the 3 blink up to 7 (3, 5, 7). It takes a few steps to do it, like an Easter egg. Wipers in x position while holding turn signal arm down whilst whistling Dixie in E minor.. but it can be changed. I'd like mine set at 5, like I set the Lexus. It is default to 3.

 

My wishlist would be to change:

Auto Idle Stop = Default Off
Auto Idle Stop Off = No amber LED in Dash
3 Blinker = Can be edited to any combo of 3, 5, 7

 

I'm happy to have choices that are easily made in the middle dash display for Settings, for a variety of things such as headlights off timing, door locking options, etc, without requiring coding instructions. Expanding those options would always be nice, including the default settings for Idle Stop, VCM, and Brake Hold, so that Acura could please more people more of the time.

 

Headline off timing options, door locking options ect are in the cars info display & changeable through the Nav system controls or info system controls for cars without navagation.

Coding deals with options over & above or that which might be available in different markets or more expensive versions of the car.

Example: Rear fog lights are not used in the US but in England a car is illegal without them. Coding can activate that option in US cars.

Again the 435 will have some items std that a 428 will not. Likewise versions within each line like 435 Luxury vs 435 M-Sport will also have some items included that the other version might not. But with coding all can be applied to any car. This was mine
