Chicago Auto Show is next month and Acura is on their floor plan. Doesn't mean they will show or announce anything new but they could provide some insight.

They'll probably just whore out a bunch of eye candy A-Spec models and that orange NSX for the Chicago show.

Based on what the GM told me I would be shocked if a new TLX model is put out for 2020. A few auto shows coming up and if it's not in any of them it's not happening. Some speculate a Type S will be released on the current platform. Based on history that will not happen and no reason for Acura to do it unless they have a re-designed chassis that nobody has every seen to this point. Too much cost to release the type-S in what most certain to be the last year of the current gen and would require new engine and trans design. A six year run is the norm for Acura and outside of some mule pics of the current gen TLX there is nothing to indicate a new model is coming this year. It's been 10 years since the last Type-S and most likely it's a ways off at this point.

The GM's at the dealership certainly knows more than any of us and they don't expect it. The Acura dealers want it to happen as well as they hear it from the customers. That feedback makes it way to corporate. I suspect that a 2020 TLX will be on the lots in early fall of this year and it will be unchanged. They put the 2019 models out way early and I think it was just to get the A-Spec out there for the variants that didn't offer it (non-V6). Hope I am wrong but I think there is way too much hope for something this year.

IMHO, any current-generation (i.e., unchanged) 2020 model year will be DOA...

Guess we will have to wait to see what happens. One thing, at this time, there is no more reason for a local GM to know when then there is for me. The local dealer GM's are not even in the food chain pecking order till the very end.

I would think Honda will hold to its practice of keeping all the info in corporate till the revel date location is chosen. Then the dealers will get there regional meetings on the new product.

Same thing is taking place on the StingRay mid engine cars. Mules are being seen in camo all over the place but no one out side corporate knows squat. Couple guys got canned for leaking a crappy interior shoot that may or may not be accurate. Lots of rumors but no hard data.

People put waaaay too much stock in what their Acura dealers say. They want you to buy a car now. Don't trust them.

Just curious, are you singling out Acura dealers? BTW, i have built an excellent relationship based upon mutual trust and respect, and they have always been completely honest with me, including what they don't know. When you play one dealership off of another, as many are fond of (I don't have that 'luxury") you often pay a price later on in terms of service quality and cost, honesty, etc.

Like I've said before, I trust my Honda dealer. I pretty much only deal with service and they know I'm too poor to buy anything new anyways.

I just hope they get rid of the ZF transmission. 300hp w/ SH-AWD without the ZF and I'd consider it.

I have no inside information but I would be shocked if they stay with the ZF - unless they're contracted to do so but I can't imagine they would have committed to a license agreement that long. I think we'll see the new 10 speed from the RDX (which isn't perfect either by all accounts) which should be mostly sorted out by then.

The same GM told me that at the corporate meeting they where told that every Acura model would have a Type S variant and that was way out in front of any Acura press release from Corporate or any 3rd party article. I do believe they find out info when they attend the corporate meetings. To think they go to these meetings and get told zero about new models or changes coming in the near future seems very unlikely.

I don't know if we will see a 2G TLX for 2020, but we certainly should. While I think the 2.4/DCT model is decent, it's considerably outgunned by the Accord 2.0T variants, which have Sensing and cost less. IMO, that's a bad situation for the "premium" brand, and I'm sure Acura knows it. So, I wouldn't be surprised if we do indeed see a 2G TLX for the 2020 model year. (Then again, we still have the 1G ILX, which is just pathetic.)

I know the auto show folks probably don't know anything, but I'll ask them at the Philly auto show anyway.

As I said we will see how it turns out. My bet is the new TLX will be a 2020 model with 350 horsepower DOHC 10 speed built on the new Accord platform.

So, there's a MDX Type-S mule as well now. Acura is going to be an interesting brand these next few years (hopefully).

I sure hope the TLX in 2020 comes out soon. The lease on my 2016 TLX will be up in June.

No kidding. Remember the Acura minivan that was caught on the road a few years back? Probably some R&D exercise, but would have been cool to know the back story. I'm still wondering why nothing has been caught on the road yet with a new body style if they're even remotely considering a 2G TLX in 2020.

Acura is pretty close to the vest about that stuff. I am hoping against hope, for a current-gen TLX-S next year, timed for when my current TLX lease expires.

Check out the front brakes on this test mule as they look to be 6 piston units. Also the track has been widened on this all new platform as you can tell by the wheel arch additions. This car will be new from the ground up and share only the 2.0t/10AT with the Accord.

Hope you are right, two thing would make me believe it. First that a new model is out at the NY auto show on display. The second being they start clearing out the old models fast. When the mid cycle update came out the 4Cyl models were scarce as they are the higher volume variants and were hard to get at a point.. If they are still plentiful at dealers by mid year then a 2021 release is more certain.

Will add that honda with the accord an civic make significant body changes on new models. I expect Acura with every TL/TLX model change will follow suit as that has been the norm. Still think they will run one more year as I was told on the current gen. The mid cycle update (minus a type S) was much more than normal for acura.

This is a cut up TLX. The one thing other than the same gen body is the wheels. I already went through two wheels on my current TLX A-Spec and can't imagine how many wheels I would have to replace with such a low profile tire with barely over an inch of side wall. Great on a racetrack but not practical for most roads in my parts.

That doesn't look just like any mule. It literally looks just like they put stickers on a current gen TLX and cut out the exhausts. How come I can't put it past Acura to release a 2020 model Type S based on the current generation TLX, like they did with the last couple of years 2007-2008 TL's. The 2019 model year will be the 5th model year. They went 6 years with the last TL generation. I hope I'm wrong, but time will tell. There's less than 3 months until NY auto show. . .

can the 10at handle that much power and torque? considering the one on RDX is already problematic.
