Of course one needs to wait until the finished product but overall it looks like it is going to be pretty boring,

This is a mid-cycle refresh, so there won't be any major changes. The headlamps were camo'ed. The jewel eye lights are a signature feature of Acura's, so that won't change. However, they have updated the grill. And yes, I see exhaust tips again too.

Those aren't camo'd jewel eyes, they are completely different headlamps.

I'm pretty sure it is the obscene size of it that makes it look that much bigger (that or she has very small hands).

It has been mentioned in several on-line auto blogs. Toyota is expected to do the same with their Camry for their next gen model. Both will be 2018 cars. Of course these are just rumors, but Honda apparently has a 4 cyl turbo making 278hp. Toyota would use the 4cyl turbo they put in the NX200.

Part of me thinks this would be a big mistake, but those that buy the V6 are looking for more power, I'm not sure they care how many Cyl the engine has. People in car forums are different. If Toyota has a 4 cyl Camry that provides more power and FE than the Accord it will be a problem for Honda.

mrgold35 09-06-2016 06:46 AM

A (twin) turbo or supercharger might work for the 2019-2020 RDX if they go with a V-6 in the 2.7-3.0L range. I love my I-4 2.3L turbo RDX with my upgrades (about 270-275hp and 290-295tq). The I-4 just doesn't have enough power pre-spool off the line and it is always spooling at hwy speeds because of 2.3L trying to haul 2-tons. Using a V-6 turbo or supercharger would have more power pre-spool, maintain hwy speeds without needing to spool as much, earlier/wider/flatter/even power delivery, faster acceleration, power upgrades are just a reflash away, and it might get better mpgs than 2.0L-2.3L turbo engine. The only penalty would be the extra weight of the V-6 turbo; but, it can't be anymore than the current 3.5L NA.

I live and drive at 5000-8000ft in New Mexico. My 3.7L MDX feels like 3.0L sometimes as I climb in elevation. Only my turbo RDX can come close to maintaining its sea level power delivery as climb in elevation. I'm 110% for a turbo/supercharger option for the RDX.

as in they camo'd the real lights by using parts-bin parts!
Honda ALWAYS does this.

I think Honda buyers will have the same problem picking a I-4 turbo top trim being around the same price as a 2.4L TLX tech with less power/features. The only difference is body style and limited Acura dealerships. You can get pretty much the same or more tech in the Accord and Civic AND you get Apple Carplay in the +16 Honda (Accord/Civic/Ridgeline) already. I don't think Acura management talks very much to Honda's management team. Honda has about +250,000 per year potential Acura buyers that could upgrade to the luxury brand; but, Honda has too much overlap with Acura for most buyer to make it worth the switch.

The next gen TLX will have to have the Accords i-4 turbo (plus a few more hp/tq) as the entry level engine and V-6 and sport hybrid option for the upper trims

So, I guess they're replacing the 2.4 TLX with the current ILX in a way... That'll attract TSX loyalists?

Way to take the absolute literal sense of what Spaceman said

BUT since you need the message to be that clear, Honda often times uses random parts to disguise a vehicle. This isn't the first time, nor the last. I'm guessing what you posted is the final version of the car- the one likely to be sold to the public and the one likely going through the final phase of testing. The actual car was bound to be on the roads (while still wearing robes) eventually.

Er ma gersh thank goodness someone like you is found around these here parts to be able to break down the message for me! Yes I realize that BUT now let me break it down to be CLEAR: I can understand using random parts for a new model on a test mule because you are hiding a lot of surprises, not tipping off your competition, etc. Jewel eyes were once new to us but they have been around for years now so seems like an odd thing to want to disguise or bother with changing out on a new test mule. Wouldn't it be something if Acura really separated out the TLX trim levels this time around?

weather 10-31-2016 05:31 PM

I am not sure about you guys but I can't wait to see the MMC TLX being revealed at of of the upcoming car show...any prediction which one? LA auto show is almost upon us, so I doubt it will be then. Detroit? NY?

Come on Acura, give us something to get excited about and start drooling over

boe_d 10-31-2016 05:36 PM

I've never seen anything new at the LA autoshow. It is like going to a dealership that charges admission and that only has one model of the current generation and half of them don't want you to get in the vehicle.

KeithL 10-31-2016 06:17 PM

I would think they may announce in February and show at the NY show as they have done in the past if I recall.

weather 10-31-2016 06:38 PM

^^ that seems very plausible as I am expecting the MMC to be released in April/May 2017.

mondster 10-31-2016 06:58 PM

Arent they featuring the gt package on the LA show? Lol

CheeseyPoofs McNut 10-31-2016 07:24 PM

The GT package will be on display at SEMA:

Acura Showcases Performance & Racing Spirit at SEMA - Acura News

Read the article... basically "performance looks without the performance" is their slogan once again. Smfh. I just dont know why they dont get it.

2018 TLX information?

hey all, been searching and not much is known on the upcoming refresh for the TLX.

looks like a new grill, similar to the MDX and maybe exposed exhaust?
looks like the I4 and V6 will still be the motor choices, hopefully they keep the 8 spd DCT

here is my wish list for the I4 w/tech which is what I want:
better looking wheels
Give us the full safety suite, this is available on the Civic, yet Acura currently can't include it on the I4
Get rid of the dual screen system

What other changes are others wanting or what changes do you see Acura making?

justnspace 12-01-2016 08:20 AM

yet, another speculation thread.
Acura just needs to release details about this stupid car already

Gen4MDX 12-01-2016 08:27 AM

Another speculation thread? If there were more recent ones I would not have posted my thread. I am just trying to gather information from others who may know more, isn't that what these boards are for?

i agree, they need to release more info, I think it is ridiculous that the Honda Civic has more tech than the current Accord and I4 Tech TLX

justnspace 12-01-2016 08:33 AM

yeah, there like a lot. cuz every one wants to know whether theres going to be a type-s, or a faster variant

but no one knows anything because Honda hasnt released anything

justnspace 12-01-2016 08:35 AM

in other words; Honda has no clear direction for the TLX as of yet and we just have to wait to see the MMC

Mr Hyde 12-01-2016 08:44 AM

Going to merge this one with the other thread on the refresh.

TacoBello 12-01-2016 09:29 AM

You know, if there's one thing that continues to come up with Acura (and everyone of it's cars), it's with regards to Acura having no clear direction.

Their new slogan should reflect that.

"No clue where to go. And no clue when we'll get there."

Gen4MDX 12-01-2016 08:05 PM

Okay got it, thanks, somehow skimming through many threads, I missed this one?

justnspace 12-01-2016 09:00 PM

^no worries.
I want to see a faster "type-s" variant just like everyone else!!

c'mon Acura, do not disappoint us!
