Tire Replacement for 2011 TL Base
Tire Replacement for 2011 TL Base
I’ve reviewed numerous posts, oldand recent, about tire replacement of the stock Michelin Pilot HX MXM4’s (245/45/18)on the TL. But, some topics like this Ifeel are specific to each person and the facts regarding the use of their carand where it is driven.
With that in mind, here is mysituation:
Other Michelin tires I’ve readabout were:
To keep the topic on point, againI’d like to stick only to Michelin tires in this thread but I do recognize alot of brand tires are have been mentioned in other threads.
With that in mind, here is mysituation:
- I live in Tampa all year (wintertire performance is not necessary);
- I want to stick with Michelintires;
- I have not been unhappy with myPilot HX MXM4’s which have 52,000 miles on them (but I have nothing to comparethem to);
- I feel like I’m leaning towards amore comfortable ride first followed by performance. When I say performance I mean aggressive drivingperformance. But I would likeperformance in the ability to stop in wet and dry conditions effectively given Ihave a 2 year old and family.
- Ideally I’d like to get similarmileage (50,000) that I’ve gotten out of the stock tires, but could take a bitof a hit in mileage wear if the ride overall is more enjoyable.
- I liked the low profile look ofthe stock tires and would like to retain a similar look because while I havethe TL base I upgraded the rims and tires when I purchased the TL.
Other Michelin tires I’ve readabout were:
- Premier A/S – I not sure I readanything about these anywhere.
- Pilot Super Sport – sounds likethese wear much faster than I would like.
- Pilot Super Sport A/S 3 – not surehow these differ from the regular Pilot Super Sport.
- Primacy 3 – does not look like alow-profile tire.
To keep the topic on point, againI’d like to stick only to Michelin tires in this thread but I do recognize alot of brand tires are have been mentioned in other threads.
very well thought out post that details your needs and wants!
you're on the right track that its a personal, subjective topic!
with that being said, lets dive right iN!
All tires can be spec'd to "low pro"
low pro is the width in relation to the sidewall height.
you said you upgrade wheels...what wheels do you have?
as you want the tire to be the same rolling diameter as your stock set! or the speedometer will be off.

just making sure you didnt have some aftermarket type wheels!
the Pilot Super sports are a pure summer! which means, yes, you're going to give up tread for grippyness!
the wear ratings can be compared to the same manufacture, in this case Michelin, but cannot be compared to other manufactures!
because each manu. uses a different type of rubber compound!
so, the wear rating for the PSS is like somewhere in the 200s and that will usually give you a clue on how long a tire last!
tires are full of compromises! not one can do it all!
I suspect the Pilot SS AS/3 has a higher tread wear rating, as A/S usually stands for ALL SEASON. So, in this case Michelin used a different rubber compound in the AS/3, one that isnt so grippy and made for longer life.
