Staggered 18's Question

Hi all,
So I am toying with the idea of running 18's instead of 19's.

I almost picked up a set of E60 M5 wheels which I personally beleive to be one of the nicest looking OEM wheels ever offered.

This the 18 inch wheel setup I am considering. They are BBS RGR:

Front: 18 x 8.5 with 38 mm offset
Rear: 18 x 10 with 25 mm offset

I think the fronts will be fine. But I am wondering if, with a fender roll, will the rears clear okay?

I know 18's are considered too small by some, but I think if the stance is right, they could look great and also provide a nice ride and lightweight advantages. I think these BBS wheels are around 19-20 pounds per corner.

Thanks,
Raj

you dont need to worry about clearance if you are not lowered..

do you plan to lower? in your post, it does not state if you are on any type of suspension..

and for the record.. stocks are 18x8.. and those are 8.5..

you wont be able to tell a difference from stocks and your aftermarket.. and will still look sunken in.. if i were you and i was going 18's id go wider because i can.. dont limit yourself because you just happen to come across a set of wheels but has bad sizing.. if anything go squared..

Hi,
They are staggered front/rear but I would run stock 245/45/18 all the way around.

And I will be running Tein SA coilovers.

Are you planning on being able to rotate your tires? It's going to look odd with those 10" rims on the front half the time........

Rotating won't be necessary.

I'm gonna run a squared setup on tire sizes but want staggered rim depth. I will run 245/45 all around. I don't think the stretch on the rear will effect total circumference much.

I would love to see some more pics of TLs lowered on staggered 18s.

Only pictures you will find is oem wheels dropped really.

If you plan to run staggered but same tire size the tread wear is still not going to match since the rears will be stretched and the fronts won't. You should be able to clear those no problem. I'm 20x10.5 +25 on 255/30. Tires tuck fine with a roll. Camber is within spec as well.

personally.. if you are running 18's you will have alot of space to work with.. throwing on staggered 18's is a waste.. id run squared..

It's your car and your $$, so you can do as you want, but I'm struggling to understand the logic or thought process. Even with same tire size all around, being on staggered rims you are going to have differing stretches by axle.
To me the only way a staggered look works is on a RWD vehicle of an owner who understands and expects to be replacing tires more frequently. Function > Form.
However, with all that being said I'm interested in seeing how this plays out for you.

I have always run staggered setups on my cars because it LOOKS better. Personal preference but a deeper rear wheel is just more aesthetically pleasing to me. Especially with the TL, the rear form of the car deserves a slightly more concave or deep dished wheel. Again, personal preference.

And here is my CLS6 on staggered rims but 235/35 all around. Never an issue.

I love the skepticism by the way.
I've waited many years to acquire my TL so I'm in no rush to buy wheels.
I put this out there to see what the community thought.

I will keep everyone updated but I'm still leaning towards E60 M5 wheels painted in the factory 2009 TL SH gunmetal wheel colour with all chrome on the car painted to match.

The forgestar F14 super concave 19's seem like a great option too.

Can run them squared and order custom offsets front rear to get the perfect degree of flushness.

Why are you going to run square tire setup on a concave wheel setup? Shouldn't you run the appropriate sizes for the front and rear so the rolling diameters are the same?

lol alright.

just letting you know tho.. 8.5 +37 is probably going to look the same as your stock 18's if your car came with 18's.. so nothing really changes

I'm just considering options. I only want staggered to have differing rim depths front to rear. Purely for aesthetics however if it compromises vehicle performance, I wouldn't do it

I wasn't being skeptical, I just dont agree / understand the logic / thought process - even if it is for aestetics. If it helps, I'm not a fan of the stretched look either, but again - your car and your $$.

My wheels are 8.5" wide and +35 offset and they are nowhere close to the OEM setup. I'm not saying they're flush...but there absolutely was a change when compared to OEM.

He would be gaining 0.5" in width and +18 in offset so not sure how you can say nothing really changes.

So general question.
What is the ideal width/offset for an aggressive stance without "poke". I don't mind rolling rear fenders or shaving tabs.

For example, with 19's running a square setup:
FR: 19 x 9.5 38mm offset
RR: 19 x 9.5 28mm offset

I'm thinking of ordering Forgestar F14's in super deep so the rear size above is the mildest option which I think will with. For fronts, not sure
