Recommended Springs For Non-SH AWD TL

I just bought one of the last 2014 TL Techs leftover in dealer inventory. I was fortunate enough to find the chrome look 10 spoke 19" wheels brand new on Ebay. The wheels made a huge improvement in looks, however I can notice the wheel well gap more now. My question is I would like to know the best springs out there to do a mild drop (1.5" max) and still use the factory shocks? I don't want to use coil overs and I don't want to slam my car. Thanks for any suggestions.

100% Tein H-tech springs. Here is a picture of my 2012 FWD TL with them installed along with 19" wheels.

if you go with lowering springs, your factory shocks will take a shit and you will end up paying for either new shocks or coilovers.. skip that and just go with a set of coilovers..

plus, lowering springs make your ride harsh compared to stock.. it is because of the added spring rate.. just do it right the first time and get coilovers.

coilovers are not just for adjustment of height but for adjustment of dampening..

I agree. TEIN High Techs is a great choice for the FWD TL. They ride similar to stock and lower the vehicle roughly an inch.

I just picked up a 2013 SpecE and have always been a fan of H & R. Cannot seem to find application for fwd anywhere. Thoughts on the Eibach prokit?

H&R springs are not available for the FWD model, only the AWD. Eibach prokit is a decent spring but they're very stiff especially if you're going with a spring only setup. The H-tech springs are definitely the way to go on the FWD for a spring only setup.

This is pretty much potmilkz' default response in threads asking about springs. It used to annoy me because I felt like it was a stretch to tell someone to spend about four times as much as they were planning to.

HOWEVER, I actually listened to him (and a few others preaching the same thing) and waited about a year before lowering my car so I could save up and get coils rather than springs. I know I would've regretted it had I gone with the latter, and am so happy that I waited and did it the right way.

His advice is spot on. I highly recommend you follow it. There are actually some ISC coils for sale in the BM. They've been up for sale for a while so maybe the seller will negotiate. Just an idea...

or you could buy the springs, wait until the factory shocks fail and get a set of Koni Adjustable struts that have a lifetime warranty!

Are the H-Techs any softer than factory? I'm curious if there is a softer spring available for the 4G TL.

The HTechs are still a bit more stiff than factory. I can't think off the top of my head of any springs that are softer than OEM.

hey xlr8... what is the top off the shelf coil over that fits the 4th gen regardless of money?

my 8th gen accord ran Koni 2812's that I have custom built, but I dont want to go thru that again for a full sized automagic car.

my car is a 2012 SH AWD Auto

thanks

Dangit. I was gonna drop mine on the Eibach pro kit for a year, let the stock struts wear out then get coilovers later. Now you got me thinking just to wait..... I have the stock 17's and this wheel gap is killin me.

But you make good points.

The H-techs have a progressive spring rate so they stiffen up a bit more when you start pushing the car. During regular cruising they feel almost exactly the same as stock, when you're pushing the car through a corner they stiffen up more than oem. They also settled a little lower than in the pics I shared above.

So far I don't regret getting them one bit.

KW doesn't seem to have anything out yet for the 4G TL, but usually they offer a really awesome high end coilover. KSport has their Version RR which I think is the best out right now for the price:
Ksport Coilovers - Version RR Damper System - Excelerate Performance - Japanese and European Performance Specialists!!
