Question about the TPMS.

Im planning on getting new rims soon but im confused on how the TPMS work. I mean if i get new rims will i be able to get the stock sensors to work on them or do i have to buy new ones?. Thanks for the help anybody.

I'm also getting new wheels/tires through Tirerack.
Are my original TPMS sensors (base 17" wheels - 200 miles) transferable to the new rims or better to have Tirerack install new at $34/wheel?
Thanks!

The TPMS system sensors in each wheel replace the "normal" valve stems. See the link below for a picture of what they look like. So if your new rims are not compatible with the sensors like the OEM wheels then you will have to come up with a different mounting technique like I did on my Volk GT-C's on my 06 TL.
If this is a one time swap then you should be alright. But repeated swaps will introduce air leaks.

Link does not work. Look up on Ebay "Acura tire presure sensors".

so what do you do if the stock tps doesn't fit? Is there an aftermarket alternative? I read the article on RonJon's website, but that seems kinda hokey...

The OEM TPMS will fit. However, if you get multi-piece wheels, you need to get an adapter or band. Either way, they'll work.

Dont worry about putting the original sensors in the same wheel position. The TL's TPMS system is smart enough to reteach itself each tires sensor ID.
