Question about 19" rims

How do they ride?

I am considering getting a set of 19" Diamond cut rims for three season use and using the 18" for winter only. Stuff I have read has implied that the 19" w/HPT ride harsh, but considering a lot of reviews think the 18" ride harsh (I don't), I wonder how much of a difference there really is.

Anybody have both and are willing to offer some input?

I have the stock 19" that came with the HPT (Michelin Pilot Sport) option & a set of the stock 18" (Dunlop WinterSport M3). I can't say I really noticed a very harsh ride with either set, although the 19" HPT are a bit stiffer(harder compound) than the 18" WinterSports (softer compound).

Another thing to be aware of that can affect ride harshness is the load rating of the tire. The higher it's rating the stiffer (and harsher) it may feel. It's really a seat of the pants sort of thing, and I'm quite happy with the ride characteristics of both wheel/tire setups I have.

Hope this helps...

Well, you definately will get a choppier ride with the 19's, especially on rough and broken pavement. But that's the typical tradeoff you get to achieve sportier handling. I also have 18" Dunlop Wintersport M3's.....it's a slightly softer ride but not a huge difference.

I agree with both. The ride quality with the factory HPT option isn't harsh, but it is definitely taut. I noticed the difference between the 18" and 19" during my test drives, but it wasn't enough to make me go for the 18". I run the HPTs all year since I live in SoCal, but maybe with a softer 19" tire the slight ride difference won't be noticeable at all since its marginal at best.

Thanks for the input. I just purchased a'10TL base with the stock 17" wheel/tires and definitely want to upgrade ASAP because of the more aggressive look of the 18" on the 18"/Tech.

The ride on the 17" (only 200 miles so far) is great and I'm concerned that 19" TSW Montage or Jarama might be too harsh.

Any thoughts/feedback?

You'll definitely notice a change in ride quality when you go from 17" to 19". I doubt it would be harsh, but there's only one way to find out...
