Options for different tire size on OM 19s???

I have the stock 19" wheels. I currently have 245-40-19 Michelin PSS.

my tires are shot and i'm about to get a new set. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried going with a diferent size tire on the 19" wheel?

is it possible to go with a lower profile tire on our wheel? like a 255-35-19? I know it's a bit wider, and from looking at online tire conversion tables, it would be close but not exact. the speed would read slightly high.. 65mph on the speedo would really be 63..

the sidewalls would be smaller, but width wider... maybe they wont' fit on the wheel... maybe they would.

I don't know a lot about swapping sizes.so I don't know if there are other drawbacks I'm not aware of.. maybe it would look weird?

my only reason for thinking of doing this is to make the sidewall smaller thinking that would give me a bit better handling by having less flex in the sidewalls.

any suggestiosn or input is greatly appreciated!!

So, if you look at the Specs on TireRack (I'm sure Discount Tire and others have it too) there's a column for "Rim Width Range" as well as a "Measured Rim Width"

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...logy%20Package

You'll note a 245/40/19 is good for anywhere between 8-9.5" wheels.

If you scroll through their chart, you'll see a 255/35/19 is good for 8.5" - 10" wheels.

A 245/35/19 is available and fits identically sized wheels as the 245/40.

Personally, I don't think I'd drop down to a 35 series tire just for ride comfort as it's a daily driver. It will throw your speedo off slightly as well.

i wonder if a 35 series sidewall would actually feel a lot different than the 40 series?

how different would handling be? and would it look "weird" since it would have a somewhat smaller sideall and hence create more wheel gap??

I may just stick with OEM... as you said.

I bought tires this weekend. I went ahead and stayed with stock size.. 245-40-19.

picked up a set of hankook Ventus V12 Evo2. my last set was Michelin PSS and while those were great, I burned through them in aboug 20k miles and didn'te feel like dropping as much money and I heard good things on these...good bang for the buck. I will report back with an update once I get more time on them.

Ya 255 40 R19 on the factory rim does work. It does give a slightly better ride So at 65mph is now 65.77mph
