Installing 17 inch Rims on 2010 TL SHAWD w/Tech

Hi All,
I enquired with Honda Canada and a few dealers in the Montreal area about installing 17 inch rims with winter tires on my 2010 TL SH AWD w/Tech, they recommend against it as it may void any Acura warranty. I asked why and no one can give me an answer. I was considering the 17 inch rim and winter option as a cost effective option vs 18 inch. Before I make a decision, I'd appreciate receiving responses from anyone out there who installed 17 inch winter tires on rims on their 2010 SH-AWD w/tech TL and what was your experience? Any problems ? Thx in advance. caps59

As long as tire height is the same so the computer see the same roll out distance? I just put 20" on my car and that is what I worried about.

if something were to go wrong put your stock wheels on and go to the dealer, even if it voids warranty (which i highly doubt) there is no way they would know if you had stock wheels on

Not a problem. Have 17" wheels & snow tires I ordered from Tirerack. Had them on the car last winter with no issues.
These are the wheels I got, and the tires were the Blizzaks WS60's.

Dealers usually have lousy service advisors who dont have a clue what they are talking about. All you are doing is putting the same size except with a bigger sidewall. Im not sure what tire rack reccomends size wise for winter but I know most of the time they downsize with a bigger sidewall. Besides assuming the stock 17" wheels clear the brakes how could putting a OEM wheel void the warranty......lmao

i'm considering 17 inch winter steel rims with 225 55 17 winter tires. The tires cover the same height and sidewall. My concern is if the acura winter steel rims fit without any problems. Your advice is always appreciated. caps59 2010 TL SH-AWD w/tech

I'm surprised you can find steal rims for the car. I know that's the cheapest route, but why not just buy alloys for it?

winters in montreal are quite severe with salt and sand that can damage wheels. Have you installed 17s on an shwad w/tech?

Where did you find steel wheels. I like steel wheels for winter. I always got asked "where are your hub caps"

Ya I was thinking the same thing? I was able to buy steel rims for our 03 Maxima years back, but now they are no longer available.

So Acura says the SH-AWD has upgraded brakes over the FWD TL. As far as I can see, the brake calipers are not different, the upgrades are cooling and vacuum booster. The calipers are no where close to the monster 4 piston jobs on the RL, which causes all sorts of clearance issues.

I guess I also did not know they made steel rims in 5x120 PCD for the TL. Let us know what you find...
