H&R vs. Tein SS-Initial Impressions
Marcus at Heeltoe did a great job swapping out my H&R springs for the Tein SS with EDFC yesterday. Big thanks to him for squeezing me in before my trackday next weekend.
The difference in ride quality is immediately noticiable. However, I beleive this is primarliy due to the upgraded shocks and increased shock travel of the coilovers vs. the stock shocks. Overall, the ride is much less jarring, even with the setting at full firm.
Was it worth the money? Well, the H&R setup is great for the price. It lowers the car very nicely and tames the car's proposensity to lean and dive. However, with the stock shocks, it did not ride very well. I thought about simply upgrading the shocks, but I also wanted to tuck the wheels just a tad, which required going a little lower than the H&Rs allow (about 1 inch more in the back and 2 up front). Therefore, I decided on the Tein SS.
The EDFC was icing on the cake. I didn't think that I would really use EDFC all that much because I prefer a firmer ride. However, with three presets, its easy to switch on the fly. So I decided to program full firm, medium firm, and soft settings to play around with it. I have to say, I'm loving the less jarring ride, especially over expansion joints on the freeway.
Overall, I don't think performance was gained or reduced but my day-to-day comfort has increased. Also, the car looks a little better. In the end, it was worth it for me, but everyone's different.
BTW, I'm selling my H&R springs if anyone is interested.

nice to see a review on the tein ss over h&r..
usually people do upgrade from them.. i jumped the step and just went straight for the SS. Its well worth the couple hundred dollars im my books.
I recently just got a RSB installed, and let me tell you.. the difference is noticeable. This is something you should consider if you want to track.

^ Who makes the RSB that you installed? Not sure if you have SH-AWD, but for me, that does an excellent job of getting the car to rotate. Will look into a rear bar though.
