245/50/18 for winter?

Has anyone gone up to a 50 profile for winter tires instead of the stock 45 profile?
The 245/50/18 is slightly cheaper than 245/45/18 and I know it may throw the speedometer of a little but on the plus side, a little more ground clearance and possibly more rim protection!

Anyone done it?

speedometer would be off, as well as total accumulated mileage.
be careful with larger overall diameter tires than stock.

Thanks. The dealership here sells a 235/55/17 with steels rims and tpms combo for the TL.
I ended up picking up a 225/55/17 set with 17x7.5 alloys and tpms yesterday.

Your speedo would be off by 3.62% which is quite a lot. Staying under 3% is what people recommend. I would do 225/50/18 as that's only off by 0.6%. It's a lot slimmer but it's better for cutting through snow in the winter if you're trying to save money or find more selection on tire sizes.
