Weak rear defrost

Got my 09 SH-AWD TL in the spring.
I haven't had to use the rear defrost up until now.
(It got cold all of a sudden here in New England - lots of am frost)

Turned on the rear defrost and it appears to be very weak.
After about 10 minutes only a tiny bit of the frost clears around the lines.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, I noticed the same issue on my 09 AWD/Tech. Side view mirrors defrost much faster than the rear window

Thumbs down

I would agree with you, had mine since october 08, and it is no where as good as my old Chev. Bad on Honda's part.

Hmmm, I used it for the first time this week and it seems to rear defrost faster than my '97 Maxima SE. I have no complaints. I used it last week also and it seems to be pretty speedy in my opinion.

My '96 Maxima SE (RIP) seemed faster to defrost, though the TL isn't horrible. Of course this comes from somebody in San Diego where de-icing is not a problem -- just getting the fog off of it.... Don't know if I want it too hot, as that'd probably result in early failure of the rear tint...

I have an 06 TL and it takes at least 30 mins. to clear frost from my rear window. Took it in for service and they told me that this is how it works. Find it hard to believe that an expensive car like this can't defrost a rear window. Most cars I've had do it in a matter of mins.

I have an 08 TL-S. This will be my 2nd winter with it. Noticed also that it takes a noticeably longer time for rear defrost than any other car I have (eg Pilot) or had (eg 00 Maxima SE).

But it not just how long it takes to clear / melt ice on outside, but also how long it takes to remove fog from inside - which is more often the situation. It seems I have to run my rear defogger and front defroster more too! And I keep my windows clean (I've tried different stuff to see if helps, but been using with invisible glass/newspaper as this works great in my other cars.).

I noticed another issue too. At times I get frost on the inside of the rear window at the bottom. Not sure if this is b/c of vents in the back and diff air temps. But when car warms up, it melts. And can cycle if cold out - thaw/freeze/thaw. Anyone else have this problem?

I guess its a honda thing, my accords (04 and 06) were the same way, slow as hell to have the defroster kick in. In my girlfriends Pontiac G5 coupe, I press the button, and I can see the lines start to form in the back window within 30-45 seconds, my TL is well over 5 minutes before I notice anything

The defroster on my 2010 TL is essentially useless because I get to work faster than it "defrosts". On the other hand, the side mirrors defrost quickly.

the side mirrors are heated...they engage with the rear defogger

Please everyone that thinks the defrost is weak call Acura and have them document your complaint. If we start a paper trail it may get fixed for all of up or at least in the newer models. I also think the front windshield defrost is weak also. I use a remote starter and it doesn't even begin to defrost till around 15mins. Yes i called Acura and had it documented. LOL A couple days later I was sent some unrelated coupons /fliers from Acura.

No complaints on my rear defroster. It does it at the same speed at my previous '97 Maxima.
