I just noticed the transmission fluid level of my 2010 TL fwd model has dropped half way below the lower mark from in between
the top and lower indicator on the dipstick after been driven for about 1500k miles. Is this normal and safe? since I bought this car with 63k on it, I don't even know if the previous owner had used the Acura genuine transmission fluid could this be the cause? Is it safe to drive it for couple hundred miles?
Did you check the dipstick within 60 seconds of shutting off the engine at operating temp (reading midway on temp gauge)? If not, the fluid level may be inaccurate on your dipstick. If you are worried about the right level, drain whatever fluid is in the pan and measure it. (should be about 3-3.5 quarts). If you have less than that, you should add the correct amount and recheck the dipstick. Fluid should be a bright pinkish red color.
It's probably fine to drive a while with it like that. But why not just go to the dealer, buy a bottle of DW-1 and top it off?
I've never knows a transmission to "consume" ATF. There's no where for it to go. It's not like an engine where it could seep past piston rings or get drawn into the intake as vapor from the PCV valve. The only way it would drop in volume would be through a leak.
