Tire weight

Hello,

Recently got new tires and been having vibration issue from the first day. Had them do a bare rim runout and the rims came out just fine. But I noticed one tire the weight is 34lbs, while the rest average between 23-28lbs. Could that 34lbs tire be causing the vibration and humming sound?

I would have that tire wheel looked into. There should not be that much of a difference.

Agreed. While I haven't had my tires weighed, I would have a hard time believing there would be nearly 50% variance in weight from tire to tire.

I typically have my tire mounted and balance (but not put on the car) as I have 2 sets (summer/winter). Before I leave the shop I inspect each tire/wheel, and I watch them do the mounting and balancing to make sure they don't mess anything up. I have seen them forget to take the existing weights of the wheel before balancing and putting more weights on, also I have had them give me a tire that was not fully seated on the wheel. It pays to double check everything.

I remember years ago buying a set of four tires from Tire Rack and the car had a constant vibration despite having the wheels rebalanced and alignment checked. Tire rack told me that a certain percentage of tires are just defective and gave us a new tire, but we were still out the cost of the numerous trips to the alignment shop.

Its reasonable to have a certain amount of variability in any manufacturing process, but at the same time there are AQL (acceptable quality levels). Just having a hard time believing those AQL would include/allow for almost 50% variance in weight. Obviously something was missed here.........

I know the tires are new but have you tried rotating the tires front to back or side to side to see what if anything that does to the vibration?

you may need hub spacers if the aftermarket wheels aren't sitting on the hub properly!

They are actually refunding me for the tires and letting me pick out new tires. So let's see if the tires fix the issue.

I had abnormal vibration and the dealership went as far as to replace the axles with no solution. Finally took the tires to a Mazda dealership and they were balanced there and the issue is 75% better. They basically told me I have bad tires but not at the point of a safety concern.

I think whats adds to the issue is if your car is awd and if you have the advance with 19inch rims, you just feel everything more

So I got brand new tires(Pirelli p7) and now when cruising I have this humming noise. Could it be wheel bearings? The car only has 21K miles on it

it could be the tires making the noise. Are the tires new? What shop are you going to?

Yes the tires are brand new. I'm thinking it a bad rim. I ordered new stock Acura rims. Going to put these tires on those rims and see if that fixes this issue.

Oh man I just ordered some tires from tirerack as well I havent installed them yet I will give an update on the results after installation. Im planning on bringning them to my dealer and have the install done there with an alignment. My SA told me this," you can buy the tires from tirerack and bring them so we can install them or you can buy and install our tires", she then said, "keep in mind when you buy tires from a warehouse though they might be new you do not know the condition the tires are in when you receive them, they could also be stacked incorrectly, causing the tires to have minor warped(sp) or defect from storage". I said true. I was also thinking the speed rating on the tires from the OEM specs for instance my stock 17s oem are 98v the lettering tells the speed and and having a lower speed rating than oem requirements makes a difference from ride variance to blow outs.

Well the humming noise I was talking about earlier is still there after new rims and tires, only hear it when the speed is going down by itself, and my foot is off the accelerator

I attached a link of the humming sound, is this a wheel bearing noise? The noise is more heard after 11secs. Going to the dealer tomorrow but wanted to see of anyone can tell me what it may be. Thanks

Went to the dealer today and it turns out the wheel bearings are bad. They are replacing both.

That's a step in the right direction. Will be interesting to see if this resolves your issue.

They changed the front bearings and the noise is still somewhat there, so now they are changing the rear bearing.
