Is there a fast clock fix?

'09 SH-AWD non-tech. Since day one the clock is annoyingly fast, about 1 minute per month. Around every 2-3 months I have to dial the clock back.

I was wondering if anyone knows whether a dealer can fix this problem, hopefully with an ajustment instead of replacing the entire "clock module" (not sure if there is such a thing).

Better yet if I can tweak it myself but I see no paramenter for me to do this.

I think nosmod05 is implying that if you put electrical tape over the clock it will never be wrong (because you can't see it).... Sorry, I can't help you with an answer and I suspect there is no real fix for this.

Yes, it was a bad stab at humour. Can't say I have a real response on why your clock is running fast however I do know that if this was a problem in other vehicles, the first thing the dealer would do is replace the head unit.

Ha!

Well I don't want them messing with the head unit just to get the clock fixed. They may end up breaking some other more critical items....but my clock would be accurate!

Just was wondering if they can tweak some software parameters (like a Torque Converter fix).

Absolutely! Two quartz Swiss watches and an atomic clock that adjusts itself every night. The two watches and the clock is always on the money. They may be a few seconds off of the atomic clock but not by 1 minute per month (roughly).

There is no mean to adjust the clock in terms of speeding up or slowing down.

A quart crystal is used to generate the clock reference frequency inside the clock circuitry. It must be out of spec in your case.

The entire clock unit must be replaced to fix.

Well I stopped by the dealer and he searched the database and there's no bulletins on fast/slow clocks. He said to fix it would be to replace the entire head unit, radio and all. He's willing to do that but there's no guaranty that the replacement would be acurrate.

I think I'll pass on them ripping up my dash to replace the head unit that would maybe fix the problem. With my luck, the replacement would be a slow clock which is worst than a fast clock.

You know, this is the very first time in this 4G TL forum that someone reported the clock running too fast.

So maybe you just have the odd one out.

Odd, noted just this week that mine is right on the money.

You do realize getting the radio out isnt a big deal. If you are worried that something will break i wouldnt. If it did make the dealer repair that. Seeing the clock issue bothers you just have them replace it.

Mine also runs a minute or two fast every few weeks. I've just been adjusting it manually...but it is a bit annoying.

If the car is still under warranty, let the dealership take care of it.

You already paid for the all the warranty fixes in advance, when you bought the car from the dealership.

Its my understnding that the clork is run by GPS and it should NEVER be off. I believe there is a setting in the navi for such. My clock has been exactly right since the day I bought it new. Perhaps you do not have the tech package??

If the clock is running too fast or too slow, do you think it will also affect the accuracy of the GPS positioning, when they are all inter-related ?

No, the GPS signal affects the clock and not the other way around.

My understanding as well. I have an atomic watch and last time I checked, the time as indicated on my watch and on the TL's clock is identical, as I recall seeing the minutes change simultaneously.

I thought the same thing when I read the original post, then I reread it and saw that OP has a 4G NON-TECH (no NAV). The only thing I can figure is that Acura (or whoever OEM's the stereo) is using very low-cost components. Hopefully the OP got the dealer to replace the head unit.

Ok, question solved.

No GPS, no synchro clock source, no accurate clock.

Just let the clock get faster...if anything it'll help you get places earlier cause you'll think you're running late

Yeah unfortunately this is pretty typical for electronic clocks, oscillators can easily be off by a minute per month, nothing strange about what you're seeing. I don't think it's malfunctioning or anything.
