Sunroof exploded
My sunroof exploded today!
I heard a strange sound when I started driving but I put it down to snow sliding off the roof, although it was different.
Got on the highway and there as a LOT of wind noise, but not that much wind. Pulled back the inner cover and there was a big hole in the centre!
I've done some research and see others have had the same experience. My deductible's $1,000 so I'll have to eat it, has anyone heard of Acura covering this?
It has to be a manufacturing defect.
One highrise in Toronto is now covered in fabric after tempered glass balcony fences started lowing out, sounds like this might be related.

I had an issue with my sunroof shattering but it was the result of a rock on the highway (had the sunroof tilted).
The total cost of my repairs was over $2k, but that was because the glass shards blew back and scratched my roof and trunk.

how many miles do you have on your car at the moment..
might not be a manufacturer defect.. might be that something just hit your sunroof

A hole in the glass is likely caused by falling debris or vandalism.
If it is a temperature-related spontaneous event, the glass will either be completely shattered or will have hairline-like crack(s).

It was completely shattered but only the centre fell out. Car has maybe 30,000 k on it. I heard the shattering sound as I started driving, nothing hit it but service said maybe it was already damaged?.

might be true. it may have been that something fell on your roof..
a acorn, someone threw a rock? or driving with the sunroof tilted and rock hit it hard enough?
but as far as having acura replace it under warranty.. good luck showing proof it was a factory defect..

My last car was an 08 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L and I had the sunroof shattered about 5 months after it happened. I was driving under an expressway flyover when it happened, so I'm guessing something fell or was thrown, but I never found a foreign object that could have been the culprit.
It was summer in Nothern VA and hot as hell outside, so I know it wasn't weather related.
