Speckled Windshield

My windshield has thousands of tiny specks in it and I plan on replacing it in the near future. A company I've worked with in the past offered three aftermarket glass options: XYG, PGW, and Trivial. XYG sounds to be Chinese, the name Trivial doesn't instill confidence, and PGW sounds decent. I believe the OEM is AGC, but I wasn't given this option. Any recommendations?

I think I've only heard of PGW. They claim to be made to OEM specs.

I just got my windshield replaced for the same reason in the sun them speckles was too much, I went with SafeLite and asked for OEM Acura glass but was pricey $1050 Total & came to my house
I was too afraid to go after market even though them brands make OEM glass

Yeah. Safelite is pricey. I'm fine with aftermarket. The car is 11 years old and anything is better than what I currently have.

Mine isn't too far off of that from years of highway driving, I have to replace the windshield in our CRV as well, may as well see if I can get a "two-fer" deal.

Is PGW OEM-quality though?

It isn't that bad unless the sun is directly facing the windshield and at a certain angle. Otherwise you can hardly see all the chips (I verified they were tiny chips by picking at them with a razor blade). I'll be using a local place I've used in the past that is about $100 cheaper, and asked for the PGW (they didn't have Pilkington).

Exact same issue with windshield road rash with my 11 MDX Adv with +153,000 miles living in the sandy southwest. I'm giving Exoshield windshield exterior PPF a try on my 19 MDX Sport hybrid. I have 3 1/2 years and +38,000 miles on my MDX and it looks like it is working preventing speckled road rash and it prevented a few debris strikes that might have caused a star without the PPF. I added Exoshield to my 18 RLX hybrid when I purchased it used back in 2019.

How does the PPF affect wiper effectiveness, if at all? Can you use Rain-X on the windshield with the PPF, and if so does rain bead up and blow off like water on a windshield with Rain-X and no PPF does?

Zero issues with OEM wipers and no issues when I changed to Bosch ICON brand wiper over a year ago. It is recommended to wax the Exoshield PPF to help the wipers from scratching the PPF. I usually wax once a month; but, we only get 6-8 inches of precipitation all year in ABQ, NM. You might have to wax more often if you get a lot rain. I hardly use use my wipers with wiper fluid to spot clean my windshield. I like to use paper towel and Ammonia free Windex as needed (mostly dust and a few bug splatters).

Thanks. Do you know if it's OK to use Rain-X on it? I really like how with Rain-X, at decent speeds I hardly need to use the wipers.

I don't know how the Exoshield would be affected with the chemicals in RainX? Might need to call a local Exoshield installer or send a question to the manufacturer about that questions.

Exoshield looks, feels, and performs just like any PPF you put on the painted surfaces of a vehicle and it does have hydrophobic properties. You can add Ceramic coating on top of PPF/Exoshield if you don't want to wax the windshield that often. Ceramic coating will provide an additional layer of protection and improved hydrophobic properties of the PPF.

I wanted to give Exoshield a try because of its self healing with minor scratches/strikes to hopefully prevent the pitted windshield look at +100,000 miles. It only has a 2yr/30,000 mile warranty; but, I'm at 3 1/2 years and +38,000 miles without issues. I figured it would be easier to replace Exoshield at +100,000 miles if it get too jacked up compared to a windshield+Acurawatch calibration.

When it rains, exoshield works the same as Rain-X, so you don’t need to apply it, armor film is very necessary for those who drive on the highway, but unfortunately its resource is about 5 years. Are you willing to pay $500 every 5 years to keep your windshield as good as new?

Prices can be regional. I paid $220 each for my RLX and MDX for Exoshield from a local installer.

I was curious about how well it works, and the cost. I don't do a lot of highway driving, and the freeways here don't have a lot of crap on them. At 53k my windshield is still very good, so I probably wouldn't get the PPF. Good idea though for those who would need it. Thanks for the info mrgold35 and altair47.

have a 2014 since new. OEM glass is AGC, when I replaced mine last year I did AGC and will not use anything else. Their glass is clear, flawless and affordable. I paid $275 installed.
