Something Weird Happened

I was coming out the grocery store today popped the trunk threw my groceries in, noticed the lights inside turn on like they usually do. door opens, i sit down, and i start the car like usual and then everything goes dark. no puddle lights, no interior lights, no dash panel lights..... nothing. its like the car shorted.

i was a bit freaked out so i figured id put my arm through the little port in the backseat and get the jumper cables and ask some for a jump. i got out the car, opened the back door, closed the front door. As soon as i closed the front door, the interior lights turned on.

I went and turned on the car, started right up. my navi/radio needed the code again and everything seemed like it was alright.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else before? Anyone have an idea what it could be? could the door switch have caused an issue/short?

I got a new battery from sears about 6 months ago and never had an issue with it.
I have a radar detector hooked up to the rearview mirror, its been there since i got the car and never had the issue.

Have you checked the connections to the battery to make sure they're tight?

I would agree that the battery needs to be checked. The trunk or door closing may be enough to make or break the connection if it is loose.

I'll go check it again and report back.

I went for a drive this morning, after 12 hrs of not driving, started right up.

Maybe the immobilizer system killed it after detecting conflicting frequencies from the key fob and something else nearby? Replace your key battery.

(Also lift the hood and look for gremlins hiding in there, just to make sure )
