Have you check the status of the remote battery? It may need replacing. Just a thought.

When you press a button on the remote, there is a little red light on it should should light. I am not near my remote at the moment, but if the battery needs changing, you would need to pry the remote open to access the battery.

If no lights my guess would be that the remote is either "toast" or you need a new battery. With it getting wet, it might be done. But with it working right after the wash, it may very well be the battery.

pull the key portion off the remote, put a quarter in there and twist, should pop right off.
Battery CR2032

side note: the inside of the key got real dirty, maybe i should clean it.

I would recommend pulling out the battery and leaving apart overnight to make sure there is no moisture remaining in the key fob. Then install a new battery and cross your fingers it isn't fried. I think these fobs are pretty pricey. Good luck!
