Rear Catalytic converter help

Hello I am trying to replace my catalytic converters I got the front one one but I am looking for anyone who can tell me how to get the rear out. I have all the bolts out I just can't fit the old part out from behind the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wanted to chime in quick! Below you can find the "official" removal procedure for the rear cat along with a diagram:

REAR (Bank 1):

1. Remove the strut brace (on top of engine)

2. Remove the rear A/F sensor (sensor 1)

3. Remove the P/S heat shield

4. Remove exhaust pipe A (referring to Jpipe)

5. Remove the intermediate shaft

6. Remove the rear converter bracket, then carefully remove the rear converter

7. Carefully install the rear converter with a new gasket and new self-locking nuts. Tighten the nuts in a crisscross pattern in two or three steps.

8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

Now, with all that being said it is possible to get them out through the top, but it is not easy. Clearances are mighty tight, and if you are not careful you can risk damaging the plastic cowl along with a couple other fragile bits. If you would like to take them out through the top I would recommend warming up in a couple games Tetris first.

Feel free to send me a PM if you need some help, and don't forget to check us out online for all your performance needs!

Happy modding!

Like XLR8 mentioned, they can be removed from the top. It's kind of a back breaker, but can be done if you remove the sway bar, coil packs and heat shields from the cat. The heat shield bolts are a bit of a pain to remove when the cat is still attached to the engine. You won't even be able to see the ones on the bottom. You'll essentially have to feel for them. But it's likely easier than removing the intermediate shaft and working from the bottom of the car.

Once the heat shields are removed, there's enough clearance to pull it up between the firewall and engine. The new cat can be slid down the same way. If you're installing a factory cat, you'll want to reattach the heat shields, which will also be a bit of a chore. But if you're putting on HFPC's or PCD's, you can easily slip them down there. I'd recommend ceramic coating them or at least heat wrapping them if you do that to protect nearby components from excess heat. Neither of those will cause a clearance issue when fitting them back down from the top.
