Bought 2009 TL drove it for nine days, had a rattle sounded like it was in the sun roof. Will be in the shop now for three weeks on Friday. This is the third time it was in shop for the same rattle, keep saying its fixed, drive quarter mile down the road and same thing again. Have 1800 miles on it. So far the dealer has been good and given me a car to use. Any thoughts on the my next move? Anyone experience from the past, will Acura stick with it to make it right? It is my first foreign car.

There's a reason I call my 3G TL the "U2 Edition"... rattle and hum, baby...

All you can do is keep taking it back to them, I guess. There are rattles I kept taking my car back to the dealer for... they kept saying it's fixed... a week later, they would be back. After about a year or two, I gave up and now after 110k miles, I hear rattles and buzzes here and there but ignore them.

All professional reviews have applauded the build quality of the 4th gen TL. Most say that the quality is at a higher level compared to the 3g. One rattle doesn't mean the build quality is identical. . This TL has the least amount of hard plastics than any TL in the past.

All cars will have rattles at some point. My last 5 cars.... 2 BMW's, Lexus, Acura, Cadillac all had rattles. Just a fact of life.

Sorry I was exaggerating a bit. I sat in a 4G and the first thing I did was push on the center console / trim pieces to see if they creaked and squeaked .. to my surprise they did.

Who knows what this car will sound like after 20 / 30,000 miles.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Acura TL (I've owned a 2G / 3G), I've grown to live with all the rattles

I had a rattle in my 2005 TL, year two. It was coming from the gear shifter box, I couldn't take it, the dealer placed a liner in it and scratched the outside badly which had to be replaced. Not a good experience there, but the rattles are annoying so I pray that this 09' doesn't...

I've had too many new cars from GM to BWM and they all had a noise or two either from day one or they just happened.. New England roads don't help either.. Good luck!

good to see that the sun-roof rattle was for only a 'limited build date range' ... 1997 to 2009

Funny I dropped my 3G TL-S off for back deck rattle and they loaned me a 09 4G for 2 days, I noticed that the 4G under similar conditions had a buzzy back deck as well, seems Acura used the same interior team and did not fix the back deck assembly design. And my 3G still buzzes, looks liek time to screw it down like my 04 TL was.

U2 Edition that's what I was looking for. Perfect description for my '07 TL-S...

cars rattle, live with it...i personally hate it, and i am usually willing to track them down til the end of the earth to fix one, but the bottom line is that cars rattle....some worse than others, i wouldnt take my car to the dealer for a rattle ever again as they are will to scratch something up and not fix the rattle in the process....

Funny thats wht they did, which is why I had a loaner 2 days, they scratched some trim putting back in the rear seat and ordered it to replace it, so I got the 4G loaner for a second day.

Pretty lucky so far
I have close to 1500 miles on my 4G and the only rattle complaint I have so far is that my sunglasses rattle in the overhead. It's kind of funny because my wife and I damned near had a knock-down-drag-out trying to figure it out. I swore the noise was coming from the shotgun side and she swore it was coming from the driver's side. Anyway, the rattle was fixed by buying some 3M sticky thin rubber stuff and cutting it with a xacto knife.

I dont know if I buy that. I mean my car has over 100k and it doesnt rattle. I just think if they build it right it wont rattle. Maybe they are just getting cheap?

Glad they fixed the problem. If it happens 20k miles down the road don't expect the dealer to be so nice. And if you look at your warranty you'll see that it doesn't cover rattles. Every car will have it's own rattles and Honda's are known from the 7th gen Accords to have the most rattles. It's the nature of balancing cost with quality.

I respectfully disagree with the above statement. I've had quite a few set of rattles in my 07 TL and they're all due to rolling these things out the door without any quality assurance testing. I mean if you're going to spend over 35k on a car you shouldn't really have to deal with rattles. Besides, not like its your fault they occur, cheap build quality.

With that in mind i drove the 09 TL this past Saturday. I wanted to see how the ride was, and its about 35F in Chicago, and there was some cabin noise. First the sunroof rattle was definitely there, the other was another rattle coming from the left air vent or upper left hand dash side, might be the mirror too not sure as i dint bother with it, i mostly drove it for curiosity and the last rattle was from the center console where u rest your hand. While coming to a complete stop and taking off I'd hear clicks, it was strange. The dealer said that the rattles are normal because of the cold weather, which to some extent is true, I do notice on my 07 TL more rattles in cold weather. I'd hate to see the new TL in 6 months or so, the build quality does worry me.

As for my 07TL that's going to be traded in for a 2010 MDX, hopefully they'll have the push start engine by then.

Not sure it is QA as much as poor design for interior assmebly. They take too many short cuts as these damn interiors snap together instead of screww and nut as years ago.The back deck is the biggest embarrasment, I mean to have to deal with buzzy back deck at a volume of 8-10 under moderate bass, it is becasue the damn deck slides into place and if I recall is only screwed in at the front edge. You out a big powerful sub and then put a loose deck over it and a grill over the sub that restrains the air pressure form the sub causing the entire deck to act liek a dam speaker. I'm in for attempt 3 this week, this time I'm telling them to screw it down like they did with my 04, madea huge improvement!!

Any Vibrations noises while in gear at a stop?
I have a TL 08 auto 30 k. and i am SICK of of the rattles.. currently i have "5" rattles (driver door, driver lower steering panel, passenger chair, gear box, and center spearker) they are all sporatic and of course i can never duplicate when brought into the dealership. i think i have tracked down the rattle in the passenger chair though. I have started to listen to my music louder to compensate for the rattles (hence the new rattle of the center speaker), but the MOST ANNOYING thing is the loud VIBRATION noises/rough idle when im at a complete stop while in Drive gear and even worse in Reverse Gear (loud enough to over power my music) and when i hold the windows button up or down it gets even louder and idles even more rough. i found on this site that it was motor mounts and/or vacuum lines, brought it in to service and they said there nothing was wrong.. Bull....

anyways.. sorry for the rant! but i have decided to get rid of this P.O.C, i still like like acura cars and the driving and i am considering in getting the TL 09 in hopes that at least the vibration problems is not an issue..

my question is does anyone have any problems with rough idle and Loud vibration noises while in gear and at a complete stop in the new TL 09 model...?

You can try to fix these squeaks and rattles with 3/4" vinyl self adhesive tape. Applied to the right areas (usually between two plastic surfaces), and the squeaks and rattles can be reduced by a fair bit.

Hope this helps.

Try checking the sun glass compartment by the sun roof. I found a rattle coming from the hinge on it.

Anyone had any further luck with their dealer fixing the rear deck rattle? I can't believe there isn't a TSB on this yet. After 3 trips in still rattles as bad as it used to.

My wife bought a new 2010 Acura TL and the passenger side of the center console squeaks and rattles. With only 500 miles on the car I took it back to the dealership to address this problem. They replace some trim on the console but it still makes noises.

The squeaks sound like an old styrofoam ice cooler.

Does anybody know if there is a manual online that shows how to dismantle the console components? I would rather tackle the squeaks/rattles myself instead of running back to the dealership.

You can try Bernardi's website as they have exploded diagrams when you are looking at the parts.
