Problem with Rear View Camera
Problem with Rear View Camera
I have a 2009 TL AWD with Tech Package.
I noticed a short time ago that when looking at my rear view camera image, the very bottom of the rectangular image shows - in very clear view - the 2" wide decorative silver trim that runs just underneath the opening of the trunk. I can see the entire trim piece across the bottom of my camera image. I can even see the the "TL-AWD" nameplate that's attached near the bottom of the trunk lid, close to the silver trim. I don't recall seeing this when I first got the car. If I recall, I never saw any of the trunk or the silver trim attached to the body that runs just underneath the trunk opening. It also seems that the "guidelines" on the camera image are off now also. I recently backed-up perfectly into a parking space using the guidelines on the camera image, and when I got out of the car, I wasn't centered in the space at all, my passenger side tires were actually on the parking space stripe.
Is it possible that when I closed the trunk, the camera got "jostled" or it's "support bracket/housing" in the rear spolier somehow "broke" making the camera tilt too far downward or crooked so that I can now see part of my car at the bottom of my camera image? Is there any way to fix this without replacing the whole spolier which includes the camera? Has this happend to anyone else? Would this be a warranty issue, possibly?
I don't see any way to access the camera itself - unless the dealer could go through the "lens" from the outside. I hate to replace the spolier due to potential color matching issues, or re-attachment issues. According to the manual, there's no way to adjust the tilt of the camera, so, I'm afraid I'm hosed.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I could see the silver trim in my camera from day 1, but my view has remained unchanged. It does sound like something has changed position w your camera.
I'd definitely take it to the dealer and let them take care of it. I understand your concerns, but I'd be worried that the camera is going to continue to shift and will become unusable in the future.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

on my car i have noticed that the entire spoiler/trunk lip moves a little when you push on it and since the camera is built into that its possible that you may have nudged that out of its place.
It's possible something has moved, but I can also confirm that the silver strip is visible in the camera's view and I expect this is intentional. It's good to know where your bumper is if you're trying to squeeze into a tight space, or something.
