Possessed wipers

2009 TL SH-AWD Tech

Here is the scenario. I turn my wipers on intermittent mode, and randomly they start goingfull speed. Then they keep going backand forth between full speed and intermittent while I am driving every 30seconds to two minutes or so. When theydo go back to intermittent, they stop at a random location on my windshield. When I turn them off, they go back to full speed and eventually after 30seconds to 2 minutes stop in a random position on my windshield, usuallyblocking my vision. If I try to turnthem back on they go back to full speed, and it doesn’t matter what mode I havethem in, they go full speed and continue after I turn the switch off, and willeventually stop at a random location again. After enough try’s, they finally park in a location where they are not blockingmy vision and stay there until I have to turn them on again. However, when I start the car they turn backon even though I never touched the switch and after 30 seconds to 2 minutesstop at random again.

I have been to the dealer 3 times, and every time they saythe switch is bad and they replace it. Every time they replace it, it starts happening again after a month ortwo. Now the dealer says they are nolonger covered under the warrantee, and all they can do is replace the switchagain at my expense.

Any clue what the problem could be? This is really really annoying. It sometimestakes a good 10 minutes to get them to stop somewhere that doesn’t block myvision after starting the car. And I amnot willing to pay for a 4th switch when the last 3 didn’t solvethis.

check your fuses and see if theyre not messed up in anyway. if they replaced the switch 3 times, that cant be the issue. follow the path of the problem. wiper switch near you steering wheel ....fusebox.....the other relay switch by the wipers... wiper motor.

are you still under warranty? are they specifically not covering that switch or are u just over your warranty time frame?

I thought of the fuses on Saturday and puled out the manual and checked and the wiper fuses were good. I am not sure what exactly to look for, nor I am sure what to check with the relays.

I personally am thinking the motor must be bad. I was googling and read that the wiper motor actually controls the parking and speed, etc. So if the switch cuts the power, the motor will continue to draw current and operate until the wipers are in the park position. Also, if a certain signal is sent, the speed will change, etc. This was not specific to my wiper motor, but wiper motors in general, but may not apply to all.

The car is a CPO. The first three times the switch was replaced, the car was in the original factory warranty, now the original has expired and I am on the CPO 1 year extension. They are now telling me that the 1 year extension on CPO covers power-train only. When I bought the car, they stated that the 1 year CPO extension was everything bumper-to-bumper, but that's another argument. Either way, I still believe they should cover it since the problem first started when it was under the factory warranty and they have failed to fix it.

The wiper blades aren't hitting anything and seem to run smoothly. It rarely rains here and I am almost always in a garage, so I rarely use them either. Basically when I pick up the car and try them out they work, the next time I need them which could be 1 to 3 months after I pick it up, the problem comes back.
