2010 TL AWD, 87,000 miles

1) tensioner/pulley needed replacement (squeal on cold starts);
2) heater core bearing shot (heater worked, but whistled/chirpped);
3) absolutely horrendous transmission performance (Had dealer replace fluid last summer, then took car to local Lotus dealer this week, which services all makes and models. They adjusted the tranny mount and put in a thicker fluid, all of which has had marginal benefit. I guess you just can't improve on crap!);
4) numerous rattles (mostly sunroof and driver's door panel, but there are others);
5) spotting on passenger mirror (dealer replaced, only to put deep scratch in passenger door I didn't notice until later);
6) cover over light in center console fell off (have yet to get fixed); and
7) release button on one of the rear headrests popped out.

Next car will be either a used 3-Series with xDrive or a used A4 Quattro.

2nd Torque convertor under warranty??

Sorry... first post and had to register for this site and not sure I'm in the right spot now.
Have a 2009 TL SH-AWD I bought in 2011 with 11k miles. Black on Black sport package. Loved it out of the gate. However, it's been in the shop more than all of my previous cars combined... 85 civic hatch dx, 90 Accord Ex, 94 accord EX, 96 Bmw z3, 03 Inf G35...

Torque convertor is being replaced again... last one lasted about one year. Frustrated because I'm now told that the only solution is to drive harder and manually shift down to 3rd when it erroneously automatically shifts to 4th in lower speeds. I drive relatively hard. It is not sitting with me that dealer is telling me that I need to give it more gas and also manually shift an automatic car. Sticker was 42k... for a "luxury" sedan this is unacceptable. I was told that there is no fix and that later models address the issue. How is this not a more serious problem that should get reconciled by corporate? Yes they are covering the TC for now... but what happens in the future. I only have 50k mi on the car. Do I just eat the next one at 3k? Not to mention front speakers have both blown with not unusually high volumes. And the driver seat is flawed. I sneeze and it pushes the lumbar support back and the headrest forward. They have replaced the lumbar motor once already and it seems like it's going bad. Normal size guy here. Now the lumbar has a wire almost sticking through the leather. Feels like a piece of barbed wired fence. Was told it is all part of the safety lumbar headrest something or other system. I literally have to put a paper towel roll behind my back to get comfortable. I guess I could buy one of those cheesy after market padded covers. But should I have to? I really think I'm just going to dump this thing. Extremely disappointed since my family has had almost nothing but Hondas and Acuras. My G35 was the most hassle free rig I've owned. Likely going back. Sorry for venting on my first post... just thought someone may have some kind of nugget of wisdom for me. I feel like I should talk to American Honda Corp but have heard they won't do anything.
Thanks all!

2010 TL AWD - 130,000 miles

- Purchased at ~99,000 miles.
- Torque Converter related vibrations, dealer fixed it with a software update at about 103,000 miles.
- Timing belt maintenance at 125,000 miles.

So far so good!

Ive only had the car under a couple months... haven't seen any of these issues, apart from the rear headrest buttons (replaced under warranty).

How can I determine whether other common issues have been resolved (e.g torque converter). Will my dealer give me service history if I ask for it?

Ask your dealer for a copy of the VIN Inquiry Acknowledgement.

Bought my car a few months ago, 2012 AWD with about 29~k on the clock.
I think I'm getting the prop shaft whine over 40mph, also a strange popping noise at low speeds (sub 20mph) from the drivers side engine compartment. could be a Ball Joint? Sway bar? Engine Mount?
I guess forum and / or dealer input would be helpful

Yes he should give you a service history, nevertheless its up to his willingness.

2012 TL awd.

Climate control not holding temp in auto mode

I figured out by using the diagnostic tool and told dealer to replace outside temperature sensor. They agreed.

Initially this did not fix problem. Temp sensor was sending erroneous data. Had appt to bring car back in, but after a day it seemed the sensor calibrated itself, and all is well!

By the way, what is a prop shaft replacement?

Passenger Speaker replaced.
Tc software updated 2 Times and replaced it finally but still loud vibration at low speed local. Metal noise -timing issue possibly- also when i give light gas on acceleration. This car gives the worst hassle ever. Been to dealer 10 times for he same noise issue. My car is at the santa monica dealer for 2 weeks now. Want to get rid of it.

2012 AWD TL, update now that the car is almost out of warranty
1. seat rattle ... replaced seat rails to fix the problem took the dealer 3 tries
2. alarm randomly going off because of failed door sensor ... door sensor replaced
3. gurgling noise on cold starts ... replaced transmission filter.
4. Uneven exhaust tips ... adjusted by dealer after 2 tries.
Hopefully no more issues for sometime and just regular maintenance at this point.

2012 TL awd 6 speed 58k
- prop shaft
replaced under warranty (originally told the whine noise was the "nature of the beast".... requested they looked at the prop shaft. What do you know center bearing was bad)
- Rattles
Had a lot of beaters in my day. Sad to say none of them had as many rattles as my TL.

2010 Acura TL SH-AWD MT

I just bought this car CPO last month with 66K miles on it. The car has run great for the first 3000 miles but the Check SH-AWD light just came on a few days ago. I made an appointment at my local Acura dealer and waited in the lounge for an hour. I was then told that they needed an additional 2 hours to diagnose the problem the next day. They gave me a loaner and I was on my way. I'm a little concerned at this point though because they told me that I would be responsible for the diagnosis fee (3 hours @ $120/hr). Once they have a diagnosis, they will call the folks at VSC to determine if it's covered under warranty. Since it's powertrain-related, I do expect it to be covered but the diagnosis fee should be covered as well as it seems to indicate in my CPO brochure. I've never had a dealer tell me that they need 3 hours to diagnose a problem on any of my vehicles. I understand that there's a lot that they need to go over but I don't want to be stuck with the bill. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks for whatever help and advice you can provide.

Improvements? Acura's rep is going down the drain. The amount of problems on these cars are ridiculous. The new generation of MDX, TLX, ILX and other models are shit. Recalls on the trannies and whatever other electrical problems.

4th Gen's - Mostly common stuff like the Prop Shaft whine, 3.7 Oil consumption with the block and torque converter issues.

3rd Gen's - A/T Tranny Failures 80k kilometers or more.

Acura finally recalled the trannies but still have issues.

Why there hasn't been a recall on the propeller shaft is beyond me. Mine is starting to whine and I'm out of warranty now. The prop shaft alone is 1000$.

2012 TL SH-AWD Tech (Auto) at 51k miles

Driven Gently

Over the past year have noticed a small rpm surge while holding 30-40mph speed and an accompanying seat of the pants feel...almost as if it's an engine miss. But engine performs well...so I think I have the torque converter shudder issue. Car was just at Acura for air bag recall and I was advised to change trans fluid (it's original fluid) and see if that fixes the trans issue. Do you guys have an ATF recommendation??

No other problems.

And very pleased that Acura provided me with a free rental for 5 weeks while waiting on air bag recall parts.

2012 Tl SH-AWD with 6 sp Automatic. 44,000 miles

I have a surge under light throttle when transmission is in 4th or 5th in city driving, with the engine at 1300-1400 RPM. I informed Acura of the issue, no problems reported to them of this problem. Called the closest Acura dealer, 378 miles away and asked them if it is possible to reprogram the shift points in D setting to a slightly higher value. The cannot change the transmission setting. I am assuming that I have the TC locking and unlocking.
Fix is to drive in the S setting.
I am overdue on the ATF fluid change, due to the distance to the dealer. I get there once per year, next month.
I would love to here of other 2012 owners that have the same issue.

Love the car and how it drives in the winter!

I have identical car at 51k miles. Over the last year or so I noticed a "surge" at around 1500 rpm 40mph and very light acceleration...getting a little worse over time. Could see a 100-200 rpm difference on the tach and feel it in the seat. Didn't slam your head against the seat and actually felt more like an engine miss. Never have changed trans fluid. Did so just 4 days ago under advice from Acura service and it fixed the problem. Used Honda DW1 trans fluid...instead of driving 50 miles to the Acura dealer. Acura service dept OK'd Honda fluid use...Honda guy said it was the same fluid. Edit addition: Change fluid yourself...takes a 17mm socket to remove fluid add plug and only a 1/4" socket drive to remove the drain plug...retorque drain plug to 36ftlb and inlet plug to 33ft lb. EASY...be glad to talk you thru it.

Thanks for the input....I am 380 from the local dealer. I have a Honda dealer in town. I had set up an appointment for June when I go out to Spokane, nice to know I can get something done here. Did you do a single drain or did you do multiple drain and fills? With my Honda's I did a drain and fill, start and run it for 5 minutes and another drain and fill to replace the ATF that was in the torque converter when I did the original drain.

Thanks for the heads up on Honda ATF.

Single drain. Interestingly the spec and reading on this forum say 3.3 qts but 4.0-4.1 qts drained and I replaced with the 4.0 qts that I had purchased. Result was fluid level right at the low mark on the dipstick. I'll get another qt and add fluid till in the middle of the marks. Front tires were 7" above the rear tires when drained...maybe that changed the drain amount. To prevent a mess I used an offset funnel at the drain to direct the fluid rather than let it gurgle out...but you have to be careful to not let the plug drop into the funnel...which is what happened to me..plugged the funnel. But then I just held it at an angle to direct it's overflow...still no mess. And you'll need a long trans mission fluid funnel to fill. Here is a good Youtube video to show where things are: 2012 acura tl transmission fluid change - Bing video Fluid cost was $8.30/qt...vs $120 Acura cost to R&R fluid.

http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=...8519&FORM=VIRE

I drove the car 300 miles yesterday and no issues.
