Passenger Side lock problem

I have an Acura TL 2009 SH-AWD Tech and I am having intermittent problems with locking the doors using the black exterior button on the passenger side.

1. I can lock/unlock doors using drivers side by using handle and using the black button. This is really a nice feature that my son uses all the time when I am close to the front doors.

2. I can unlock doors on passenger side by using handle and occasionally, I can lock it using the black exterior button.

Sometimes, when the weather is below 0 degrees Celcius, it will not work for sure.

It is intermittent, sometimes it works and sometimes it cannot, I have had the dealer look at it but they can't reproduce the problem as it is intermittent.

I am having the same issue with the driver's side. Do you figure out a fix without taking it to the dealer?

For me, it was user error. If only the driver side door was unlocked only, you can't lock the door using the passenger side button. If all the doors are unlocked, then either driver or passenger black buttons will work.

I would check the battery on the remote and see if the car can be locked or unlocked using the key fob button. In my case, I was able to lock/unlock car using fob.

If your issue is reproducible, you may need to visit dealer.

Same here, it has stopped working on the driver side. I think one too many car washes in this cold weather did the damage. Hope its just temporary and something shorts because of water/ice. I'll park in a heated garage for a few hours and see if the door lock button starts working again. I checked the fuse (#9 under the dash) and its ok.

The other thing I was thinking about was because I disconnected the battery (to replace it), perhaps there is a door lock re-learn procedure. But I checked the shop manual and unlike my old Accord that had a power door lock and power window re-learn procedure, this one doesn't have one. Or maybe there is one?

This issue was intermittent (but always I reported it to tech when I did my routine maintenance) so finally after being in cold weather for a couple of months (-10 C to -20 C), the passenger black button died. It was replaced under warranty. Both driver and passenger black buttons work like a champ to lock the doors.

Oh man now you made re-think about washing the car in the winter

Its not only Acuras/Hondas, some 3-4 year old Mercedes E and S class owners report the same issue with their exterior handle buttons.

PS. For the DIYers out there, an example of the parts list is here: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no, Number 13 and 29 on the diagram depending on your car color.
