Need HELP ASAP!!

My cousin owns a 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD just like I do
He saw that the oil life was at 10% and thought it meant to add more oil, so he added 5 quartz!! I am sure you are all scratching your heads just like I did! Now when I asked him how long he had driven it he said only a day... How much damage do you think he has done?? I don't think he is telling me the truth. I already told him not to drive the car any longer. I told him to drain the excessive amount of oil out and then to go get an oil change, but he doesn't know how to drain it. I live far so I can't go help him. After he get the oil changed what is the best thing to do? Can he flush the block? will it even help? I've heard of seafoam... will that help? He said the engine sounds like it's struggling a lot... Please help! I wish that was his head!

If the crankcase is overfilled with oil (as in 5 quarts overfilled) and the engine is run, serious damage can occur because the the crankshaft could pull up the extra oil and it foams and then the oil pump can't move the oil to lubricate vital engine components. If the engine sounds like it's struggling now, damage may already have occurred. I would have it towed it to a shop, have them drain and refill with proper volume and just wait and see. Something makes me think your cousin is in for an expensive repair down the road. Also, remind him to read the manual about the oil life meter. At 10%, he needs an oil/filter change, not just add oil on top old oil in the engine. It's an oil life meter, not oil level meter.

Yeah, I had already explained it to him. That it didn't mean it needed oil because it only had 10% left that it meant that the quality of the oil it had was at 10% and that he should change it... Maybe I wasn't clear enough. His old car burnt a lot of oil so he blew the engine because he didn't put oil in it. So he thought that all cars burnt oil and he didn't want to mess this other car as well.
