HID low beam flicker

Hey guys,

I replaced the stock 4300k's with Kaixen 5000k's when I first got my 4G. But after a while the right headlamp would randomly flicker non stop and stop whenever it felt like it. Took it to a shop and discovered the HID covers behind the HID bulb itself were not put back in place and my Kaixen's were burnt. Does that make them flicker?

So I got new covers and tested a different HID bulb. They too flickered when I put it in. Even semi-burned the bulb. So I put the stock 4300k's back in and its fine no flickering.

Looking at my Kaixen's they are D2C's but I was pretty sure that C was compatible with D2S unless I've mistaken. Could it be my ballasts?

Thanks

The fact that you put your stock low beam 4300K and everything is fine again, doesn't sound like it's a ballast issue (do the low beams even have ballasts?)

I've read another member changing low beam bulbs to Kaixen's and having issues. I wonder if these are the best bulbs? Perhaps Philips for low beams are more reliable.

I was thinking the same. Probably just Kaixen's bulbs. I'm pretty sure they have oem ballasts they're still HIDs Makes no sense to spend $100 on Kaixens when I could've paid a lil more or same for Phillips. I guess I'll try out phillips and see what happens

How was the color of the Kaixen 5000K bulbs? Can you even tell the difference between the color of the Kaixen 5000K vs 4300K OEM?

Where is the best place to get Philips Ultinon bulbs in 5000K or 6000K?

low beams are HID, so yes they would have a ballest

Philip bulbs would more then likely be the OEM brand if they are not the OSRAM Sylvania brand (there are basically two brands of OEM HID bulbs, it's one or the other)

more then likely the cheap bulbs causeing the flickering; also on those Philips bulbs, be very careful about buying imitation bulbs, there are alot of knockoffs out there, that will even say Philips on the packageing

5000k is more of a pure white. With the slightest hint of blue
4300k is more visible light, looks more yellow.

I can tell the difference between them tho.

iirc Carquest has actually started recently selling Philips bulbs (headlight halogen, but i do not know if they have the HID ones yet though; but they should be able to order them for you more then likely though, just might have to wait a couple of days though)

edit: as far as available retailers (there are a couple of online ones too

^^ curious about the "knock-offs"

i've been researching Phillips ultinon bulbs, and i see big price gaps... anywhere from $190 a set to $50 a set

is there a website/FAQ about identifying counterfits?

^^ iirc (have not priced them out for a set in a while) it will more then likely be on the higher end of the price range (i remember pricing a set of bulbs out like a year ago, for a quality set, and it was like $100, so like $200 per set)

btw a start to identifying (also as they say buy from a reputable source)(i just YAHOOed it lol)
