Help with undersill

Driving on the freeway the other day I ran over something and heard a "pop". Turned out that whatever it was hit the bottom of the driver side undersill just in front of the rear tire and the popping I heard was the sill popping out of the clip that holds it in place just in front of the wheel well. The small portion of the undersill that extends up behind the rear door is held on by one of those grommets that slips into a slotted clip that is molded to the inside undersill piece (I can try and take a picture if that helps). Anyway it looked like I should be able to manipulate things back into place without taking everything apart but so far no luck.

I will be bringing the car in soon anyway for airbag and transmission recall issues and I guess I can have the deal play around with this (I assume shouldn't take more than about 1/2 hour). But does anyone have some tips if I want to try myself?

Thanks,

The same exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago!

There are a few screws on the rear wheel arch that you need to remove. You also have to remove a few clips from under the car. There are also a few screws on the front wheel arch that hold the side still on.

Once you remove all those, the entire sill slides back towards the rear of the car! It took me an hour to do it properly and also I removed the tires to make removing the screws easier. I took some pictures, I'll try to post them by this weekend.

Yeah--it looks like just the rearmost clip popped off the grommet and I thought I could just loosen up the 3 screws on the rear wheel arch to give me enough play to manipulate the slotted clip back onto the grommet. I could not get enough leverage to do so and figured there are probably other clips to remove that would make it easier. Guess I will let the dealer do that when it is in for service.
