Help! Start-Up Issue!

Hey guys, just got my new tl a few weeks ago and am lovin it so far. However i am having one minor issue. On occasion my car will make irregular engine start-ups. So i get in my car, push the brake then the red button and maybe once out of every five times it has a delayed start-up if you will...It sounds as if i were putting the key in the ignition of my old tl and keeping it held turn for two to three seconds.. It is strange that this onyl happens once in a while, but it kinda pisses me off that a brand new car like this seems to struggle to start-up? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

I have an 08 TL and mine does the same thing...it doesn't vary with heat/cold either...it does NOT do it after the car has warmed up, but it has done it during both the summer and winter months...if anybody has a clue let me know...

My 1G TSX did the same thing. If I understand your post correctly, and if I remember properly, it's the computer at work, trying to adjust for exhaust, combustion, etc... It's normal, and as with MILFhutner06, it does not occur after the car has warmed up.

During the first couple months after getting the '09, on occasion the engine would crank a few extra times when starting. It was very rare, happened maybe 3-4 times. I didn't think much of it. Now a year later, it never happened again. Maybe something just had to break in.

Have 1200 mi on my 09 TL, and it just started like that when I was going out to lunch. Very weird, it's a start that if you were showing someone the car for the first time it would make you feel like an ass being its supposed to be a brand new car.

To sum it up

Acura Batteries are terrible.

Dealership will replace under warranty, but with another crappy battery

My opinion, especially if you are in extremely cold temps, buy a better battery... Optima Redtop, Interstate etc...

That's true but I would change that you Honda batteries. It's crappy all across the board. You have fords and VW's where they keep power going to the cig lighter even when the car is off. Which makes sense its not like a cellphone or a garmin is going to drain your car battery. Sorry it would probably drain Honda's battery

Yea, i had major issues with my 3G batteries... Acura will of course, keep replacing them for you under warranty... but the hassle isnt worth it... having your car die on you on a cold morning SUCKS.

Its the cold crank amp that is the problem with Honda/Acura they never give enough hence why the car always struggles to start.

I believe, as others have suggested, the computer is trying to reach an optimum. My 1G TSX did that more than my '07 TL Type-S, but it does happen. I'm not worried.

I've had my 2009 TL-FWD for a little over a year now and had the delayed start-up issue during the first 6 months. It would occur about once or twice a month. But for the past 7 months, it hasn't recurred. I don't think it's battery related.

its been happening to me lately now.... i know exactly what you are talking about...

it does 'feel' battery related... but its slightly different the CCA not being enough... its almost seems like a fuel injection/pump issue...

its happened like 3x in the past 2 weeks for me... Car is 4 months old, 9,100 miles

It's been happening on mine every now and then. I thought I'd do some research and I guess it's nothing to be worried about. Thanks guys.

I've had a start-up issue happen twice. Its almost as if the car is turning over and the starter is still trying to start the car. Basicaly the startup feels very rough and I don't have tech package ( in tech the computer must monitor and control the startup while in non tech you just let off the key when the car starts). I've had the car since Dec 9th. I'm wondering if the battery could cause these startup issues? I may just replace it with a good cold crank battery due to living in Atlantic Canada were here in Halifax we ave winter temps around 0deg cel but dip down to the dirty -30deg cel + on occasion. My 3G TL's battery gave up the ghost 1 yr after purchase stranding my wife while I was away in Ottawa for work.

Acura seems to ingnore its most basic weak link in its cars...the battery.

I have a 2010 tech AWD with 1,200 miles on it. For the first time since taking delivery, I started the car via the red button and the starter did not stop cranking once the car was running. This was very odd, because once the starter let off (after about 3-4 seconds), the car was sputtering, then ran smooth. Very odd.

Basically, if I was starting the car with a key, it is like continuing to hold the key in the start position after the car is running. Not good for the starter.

Don't think it is battery related. The car only sat for about 2 hours. Anyone know of a TSB on this?

I have my TL SH AWD for a week and i have the same issue. It's happen when i turn off the engine for about one hour (like lunch time). When i start the car after that, the starter crank the engine a little bit longer and the idle is rough for few seconds, after that everything come normal (idle is ok). When the engine is completly cold, i don't have that problem.

Somebody has some news concerning this problem. The Acura dealer around here seem not to be aware, anyway what they told me.

looks like this is a common issue with TL's 3G and 4G, mine does it pretty much half the time. The other half it fires up nicely.

Had to determine, the problem comes and go! No one had any root cause? Will it be on the Acura TSB???

Same problem with my 2010 TSX V6. Has only happened three times in six months though, not too worried about it.

Finally took it to the dealer . . . all fuel injectors replaced and battery replaced! The dealer told me the problem is cause by low quality gas (maybe Costco gas) & the new TL fuel injector 0-ring sealed. The fuel flooded the engine (poor seal) and loose pressure, and the starter is trying to give a few more turn to built back up the pressure . . . then it kicks in, and drives perfectly. But sooner or later, the fuel injectors will go bad . . .

All works are under warranty . . . so, no cost to me. The car starts perfectly, and haven't have any start-up problem come back!

Did anyone experienced this?

I don't think the fuel was the issue. If the Costco gas was the problem then Acura wouldn't have covered it. He was just giving you a BS story. I guess it was a defective o-ring. I wouldn't change fuel because of him. If you would have said gulf, Texaco or BP he would've said the same thing.

Has anyone heard a short squealing noise when starting up on a cold morning? When I press the button I hear this noise that sounds like it is coming from the left side of the car and lasts just a second or two. Listen closely for a noise on the left side the next time you start up on a cold morning(under 35). Please report back if you hear anything. Does not sound normal to me. I have 12000 miles on the car. Thanks.

Guys I have the exact same issue with my 2010 Acura TL AWD-Tech...car has 5,500 mile on it (I've bought it brand new in September) If the car is cold (sitts overnight) it starts just fine. But once it warms up it acts up almost every single time..it started here and there but lately it's happenenig on a regular basis...What's weird is that my wife has 2007 Acura TL Type S...and hers is doing the exact SAME thing......when it's cold it fires up..when hot it has a hard start and it "deisel it's way to 700 RPM" the only thing we do the same is get the premium gas from QT..so I've taken mine to Shell and gotten V-power fuel from them and problem is still there after two days of new fuel...I've taken her car to a Acura dealer and they said "no problem for them it starts every time" Now that mine is actiong up a lot I will take it to them next week if it don't fix itself. Man this pisses me off...I've paid nice change for these two cars and got nothing but headache!! I did some research and found this...I know it's for a older TL but sounds the same....http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/th...d_to_start.pdf

Any help would be appreciated..
