Heated Mirror/Defrost 09 TL w/ tech

Hey guys, for my own sanity I'd love to get some responses quick! I live in Utah and now the temperature is around 30 degrees and falling. Ive noticed that when I start my car that my heated mirrors are turning on even though I have not touched the defrost button... I don't know if this is normal and the vehicle turns them on automatically due to outside temperature? I'd much appreciate it if someone would go start their TL if they are in colder temperatures and see if their mirrors get warm within a few mins without manually turning the button on.

I don't know if the '09's are like the '10's but on my 2010 TL, there is a separate button for the Rear Window Defogger/Heated Mirrors. It is the 3rd button from the bottom on the right side of the center display/controls. When it is ON, there is a light on within the button. I believe that it is "sticky": i.e. - whatever state the button is in (ON/OFF) when the car is turned off, it will still be in the same state the next time the car starts.

In the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Owner's Manual, under the Power Mirror Heaters section, it states the following:

"If the outside temperature is below 41°F (5°C), the heated mirror function will come on automatically for 10 minutes when you turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position".

The 2009 and 2010 Owner's Manual does not state this, but perhaps the feature exists as well in these years.

Not sure if this input is helpful, as mine is a 2009 Canadian model, but regardless of temperature, the rear defrost does not self-activate. And it is not, as RenoTL described it, "sticky"...but again, Canadian model.

That said, if I use the remote starter, it automatically sets front and rear defrost to "on".
