hearing subtle buzzing sound while having ac on
usually hearing this while cruising on highway with radio off and ac on. it sounded coming from front passenger side area, can't really pinpoint the exact location. also, it's intermitten, therefore i haven't taken to the dealership yet. anyone else having this problem?
Well yes maybe. I posted under vacuum noise and hopefully were talking about the same issue. I have described it as a vacuum noise but in my case it could almost be the sound you get from worn pad or anything else rubbing. The problem I have is it does not change with speed or rpm. Starts at about 45 and stays on until wind noise takes over. Below 45 mph it stops like it's just switched off. Its not 100% and sometimes it will be fine all day or it can come on after 4 miles or more. Dealer wants to help out but I feel its one of those things that the tech will have a hard time tracking down. I am going to see if I can have the tech drive home it for a couple of days.

well i finally took it in today for a shop foreman to test drive with me. after the test drive he nor i were able to pinpoint where exactly does the noise come from except it's from somewhere around passenger side dash board or the passenger side front quarter panel area. basically my symptom is like this, after driving the car for 10, 15 minutes, there's a noise sounds like electric static sound coming from the aforementioned areas. the faster the car goes the louder and more noticeable the noise. if the car really speeds up that electrical static sound turns into a somewhat squeaky sound. hard to explain but it's definitely on my mind now. dealer said it could be the front suspension (maybe), i'm dropping off the car again next week and have them to keep for couple days to check out all the questionable areas.
I took mine to the dealer today. They had their 'master tech' ride with me. As soon as we got to about 50 mph the noise (hissing/slight whine) started. He had me put car in neutral and rev engine - no change. He then opened the passenger door for a few seconds to listen. Said it is the carrier bearing for the AWD driveshaft or propshaft. Apparently quite rare, but not unheard of issue with Honda/Acura AWD. When we got back to the shop he put it up on a hoist and had someone run it up to 45 mph while we stood underneath - sure enough that was where the noise was coming from. First time they had seen it on the TL SHAWD, but they have seen it on MDXs and Honda Pilot (this guy used to work at a Honda shop). They said it is not a mechanical issue - some of them just start making noise. He did coment that the TL was a bit unique in that there are 2 carrier bearings (the front one was making the noise) - apparently the MDX and others have only one.
They ordered a whole new shaft; will be installed tomorrow.
