General Mantinence and Broken Cruise Contro
General Mantinence and Broken Cruise Contro
Hello all, I'm new here and also now a Acura owner thank to my lovely bride to be. Recently we got her old car back from her brother that she used to drive in high school. It's a 2001 Acura TL 3.2
I can't even tell if my whole message posted, it doesn't appear so? Basically I'm asking if their are common maitrinence issues I should attend too. And what's the deal with this misfire (1, and 5). It seems to be very common. I cleaned upper plenum and manning was 100% clogged. I think I probably need to take a look at EGR valve next. Thanks for any help guys.
I just logged in on my computer, I was using my phone before. About 10% of my original post actually posted. The vehicle is a 2001 Acura Tl with 212,000 miles on it. I have no idea what kind of maintence has been done by my fiancé dad other than regular oil changes and air filter changes.
I have suspect it has never had a set of plugs. The upper plenum was dang near 100 % clogged, and I suspect the EGR valve is in desperate need of cleaning or replacement as well.
I don't know what other things I should be looking at for the misfire code on Cylinders 1 and 5 but it seems all to common.
Also the cruise control doesn't work, my fiancé said after her uncle installed her CD Player a long time ago it quit????
TCS light also come on and off at random, although it never works to begin with. I don't know how common it is for the computers of crap out but I'm wondering if thats not the issue here.
Front end is trash and will be rebuilding that this summer. My main deal is I live in Houston and I can't get it inspected without passing an emission test, which it certainly will not. I apologize for the crappy first post and hope to get some help from you guys. Thanks in advance.

That's pretty bad. Assuming the old car owner never did the proper maintenance I would start with this.
Inspect all fluids.
Check diff levels.
Check spark plugs.
Check to see if timing belt is worn underneath the timing cover.
Probably do a engine oil flush.
Motorvac (Runs the fuel system on a pure cleaner or a good injector cleaner). Good to do before changing the spark plugs.
Obviously check your control arms, ball joints and tie rods and end links and any other bushings on that car.
Other then that. Traction control could be anything you would need to check current codes or history codes with a scanner.
Not to sure about the traction control not working. Could be anything. Wiring or mechanical.
