Driver belt buckle not latching

I noticed my driver side belt buckle isn’t latching. I can’t quite tell what’s going on but it won’t ‘click’ and latch. Just mushes in there.

is there a fix for this or do I need to spend $90 on a new buckle?

Thanks!

Honda is known to have one of the best seat belt warranties in the business so check that initially. At one time it was 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Then I think it got modified to “useful life of the car” meaning if you could drive it to a dealer, it was covered.

I just put in 2012 TL for a search and came up with the warranty at 2012 Acura TL warranties. The seat belt portion is on page 26.

Agree with John from PA. I don't know the specifics but seat belt warranties are generally pretty generous. A visit or at the very least a call to you local dealer may provide a surprising response in terms of what is covered.

I stopped by a Honda dealer. They said it’s free if it’s defective but if there’s something in there the ‘diagnostic’ fee is $167. Buckle extra of course.

A new buckle is $80.

I think I’ll fiddle with it a bit to see what I can do. I looked in there and didn’t see anything but that’s a gamble…

I’d have someone with a compressor blast away at the internals with compressed air, then find another dealer. These diagnostic fees are a joke. They are intended to cover the use of a code reader, not a worn out safety belt or something with perhaps lint inside.

Good video on removing the 2014 Accord retractor. Probably similar to what you have.

Called the Acura dealership, they said 'diagnostics' would be $199 if it wasn't defective. I pushed back a bit saying 'diagnostics' shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes. They said "well our techs have to turn hours," and I pushed back again. They finally said they would just have the manager look at it, no charge. Sure enough it's defective and they ordered a replacement.

They washed my car, gave my key back and said "drive carefully."

lol.
