you can honestly only see it on black,, maybe grigio.. but i only know it happens on black....

i got a loaner at the time, i wanted a 2012 mdx, they gave it to me.. regret that choice.. should have gotten either the same TL or something smaller.. the mdx was a damn gas killer.. 17 mpg

I might sound crazy, but I feel like the crows feet became more obvious AFTER I machine polished the car. Maybe the heat generated causes the base coat to shrink or something under the clear?

I normally wash my car under the car port so there is no direct sunshine. I had my SHO parked there at the time because the insurance company was coming to look at it yesterday. So the TL was in direct sunlight when I washed it this time and I noticed them all over the roof. In the shade you can't even see them.

So maybe it's just an overall resistance to heat then? I could swear they got worse after I heated up the paint with the compounding/polishing.

crows feet is clear coat failure.
i assure you, they were there before you polished and all you did was make them visible, as you cleaned up and corrected the swirls, making the paint more reflective

yup crows feet is on the underside of the clear coat.. you cant polish or induce crows feet.. its there to begin with.. results of bad prep job.

Whoah, bad prep from factory?

Yeah, that was the other option, I was just looking harder at the paint after polishing

All of the details haven't been discussed yet. I'm going to get a call later today to tomorrow to go over exactly what is getting done and what shop it's going to. As far as what I'm getting out of it, that hasn't been talked about yet either.

well i guess.. i hope that shop is good.. some shady shops just want acura to pay them and the car out of their shop asap.. i was in consistant contact with the shop.. they were within 5 mile driving distance so i stopped by every 3 days or so.. my car was at their shop for a month. Just make sure when they are done that you do a 100000 point inspection. make sure all your tech works as well as no loose panels.. dirt spots on your roof liner.. scratches on your leather.. everything.. even under the hood.

My TL was suppose to be completed by today, but instead I'm waiting for another month while the shop starts from the beginning of the process. The painter tried to save some time, and only sand the paint down to the sheet metal where it was really bad, but left the other parts slightly sanded. When the car had time to dry out in the sun, a week while it waited to be waxed and buffed, the paint started to show signs of the underlining issue again. Point of my reply, doesn't matter how good the shop is, if one person decides to take a shortcut it creates a failure in the process, and you may end up in the same spot as me. Make sure they document each phase to show everything is done correctly the first time. Good luck!

All 4G members with paint issues, if you have paint checking "Crows feet in the base coat" make sure your TL looks like this before they start to repaint your car. If not, you may end up waiting an additional 2-3 weeks like me.

it's the right way to do it but thinking most shops will strip back to bare metal before spraying...yeah, good luck. i don't see that being the norm.

Finally!!!

So after close to two months of waiting, here is the final result. Nothing that you all haven't seen before, but this one is mine.

Final Tips

· Be patient, but not a pushover. This processtakes time to be done right, so make sure they do it correct the first time.

· Check in on progress of the process at leastonce a week.

· It never hurts to ask. Example, I didn’t havethe front license plate plugs and figured I would see if they could providesome to allow the paint to dry on the front bumper. And they said, Yes.

· Test drive the car for any weird sounds. I had asound coming from the rear of the car and it turned out to be the rear interiordeck was not installed properly.

· Check all doors, hood, trunk, gas cover, and allother exterior parts to make sure the align properly. My hood and gas coverwere off and needed to be adjusted.

· Make sure you are happy!

I got mine back today after nearly a month. They said it was ready last week, went to pick it up and it had rough edges along the hood and trunk. The chrome on the roof had what looked like clear coat over the old paint they sanded off. Also there was compound residue in all crevices. I wouldn't take the car so they sent it back and it looks like new now. They did swap out the grilles for me since I had a new one I wanted to throw on. The previous one was painted cheaply by a member on here who claimed it was from Nexson. It was determined that Nexson never touched the piece. The new one is his work and looks much better.
They added the roof spoiler as well, though it looks like they had an apprentice just toss it on there, it's not lined up so great. I might order new 3m tape and do it over. I added the led plate bulbs today as well.

Thanks. Overall I am happy with the results. Being without my TL for 2 months and driving loaners was a pain. I am definitely glad to be driving her again.

Yup, I had a similar experience, but give them a week to make the corrections and she looks pretty. Enjoy Brock.

yup, you are not suppose to touch the paint as it takes about 45-60 days to cure. if you wax you are essentially touching semi wet paint. just let it dry.. if you got bird poop, wipe it off asap. it will eat through semi wet paint like nothing.

let it sit in the sun to bake, it should cut down the time

Correct. Fresh paint needs time to let out all the solvent as used in the painting process.

Let the paint dry out completely before waxing (=sealing all the pores).

Gotcha, I knew it shouldn't be waxed/sealed immediately (though I thought 30 days was sufficient)...the washing comment caught me off guard. When I picked mine up it was raining so I washed it the next day. I did hold off on waxing for a little over a month though.

if its not bird poop, it is ok to leave it unwashed.. as long as you are not rubbing the dirt against the paint it is ok to leave it dirty..

My cars going back for repaint again, the car had so much pollen on it, that I didn't even notice the entire section of the quarter panel they didn't paint. After the downpour today I went to look over the car and I saw tons of crows feet that they missed.

See if they will take the whole car down to the bare metal like they did with my TL. No sense in wondering what else they may have missed and then have to go back in for a third time.

Ironically my TL went back into the shop yesterday after I found an issue near the driver's side taillight. The tech installed the light too far in that it rubbed against the paint and caused it to lift in a small spot. I'll be picking it up today, but just goes to show how patient one must be when getting their car repainted and they want it done correctly. Good luck Brock.

It's now going on 3 months and the dealer still has my car. Acura customer service is beyond shit, all they do is refer to the warranty and say it's covered. I have gotten a lawyer and we are working on getting a different TL all together or getting my money back. Since I got a lawyer Acura has gone quiet and I'm not even sure if the dealer has my car or if it got shipped to California, they were talking about it. This is definitely my first and last Honda product vehicle.
