car jerks and engines stalls from a stop

My car has about 81k and been doing regular maintenance accordingly to the manual ever since I bought it used with 62k on it. Recently the car would jerk as soon I accelerate from a stop and the rpm would drop. I drove it for about 20-30mph than the engine just shuts off so I took it the repair shop and was told that the ecu module needed to be replaced. My question is what would cause it to fail and is this a common problem with 2010 tl base models? I had owned 8 different cars new and used with almost 90k on it and none have had this issue.

Have you tried relearn the throttle body? With such a service, burn the ECU only if you reverse the polarity when connecting the battery, But then the car probably wouldn't start.

This is not a common problem, so it's either a misdiagnosis, or the repair shop really burned your ECU. If shop burned your ECU, then he should be responsible for it. If shop do not have Autel to write down the VIN to the ECU, you need the KEY, FOB, ECU, LOCK CYLINDER, AND STEERING LOCK SET, or go to the dealer so that he write down your VIN to the new ECU.
