Average running costs
Average running costs
Hey guys,
Cross-shopping a few larger sedans as I have a kid coming soon and 4th gen TL is definitely my favorite having tested one.
Only worry are the IMMENSE running costs estimated for the car by edmunds' 5 year cost to own tool: 2010 Acura TL 3.7L V6 AWD 5-speed Automatic w/Technology Package True Cost to Own
Around 10 grand for maintenance and repairs in 5 years?!?! They must be inflating the costs for luxury brands, as they assume we will do all of this at the stealership.
What's your experience/knowledge of average running costs? Seems crazy that a comparably priced 2010 Hyundai Genesis would cost 10 grand less to own over 5 years...

I have had my TL SHAWD for 17 months and have rotated the tires twice, 2 oil changes, and rear differential fluid change not exactly high cost. Seems inflated. Maybe if you have to buy tires in a year.
I turned it in at the end of the lease and got a 2013 AWD if that tells you how satisfied I was with my previous 4G.
The vehicle isn't too expensive to maintain. Basic maintenance like oil change. Tires are a bit more on the expensive side. I'd say gas is the most expensive. I easily spend $250+ a month on gas.
NOBODY buys a TL because they need it or it makes economic sense. You buy a TL because you WANT it. If you are concerned about $ buy a 3 year old Civic.
Honda/Acura V6 engines do have a $1,000 surprise at 105K miles for a timing belt and a water pump.

What I do get though from reading other replies is that, other than the fuel and depreciation, it won't cost significantly more to maintain/own than an Accord V6 with similar sized tires.

I have the same problem
I just want to make sure the hidden costs of ownership aren't an excruciating money pit.

I've also read quite a few reviews where there's a problem with the SH-AWD system, something breaks and it's an expensive repair, especially in the 09 and 10 models.
