2013 6MT oil consumption issue

I’ve got my 2013 6MT with 135k miles. I started noticing the oil consumption issue about 10k miles ago.

I don’t recall getting the letter from Acura so I’m assuming I’m out of luck.

If I decide to get my pistons and rings replaced as that appears to be the issue, what is the average cost to get that done?

I assume nothing I can do with the Acura recall fix this far out considering the circumstances but wanted to get opinions.

Thanks.

The "extended warranty" was for 8 years since the car was first sold, or 125k miles, so yeah, you're out of luck. When I had mine done in June of '21 by the dealer under the warranty, I asked the service rep how much that repair would cost. and he said about $6500!

The book gives 16 hours labor for this job, + gaskets and rings. But I use DMSO to solve this problem. How much oil does your engine consumption per 1000 miles. What kind of oil are you using?

I would say around a half quart to a little more per 1k miles. I’ve been using Mobil1 full synthetic high mileage or high mileage extended protection full synthetic.

What is the viscosity of motor oil?

5-20. Always been using the same viscosity.

You might give Valvoline MaxLife High Mileage 5w30 a try. It's a synthetic blend vs full synthetic. In my experience, it has a measurably lower rate of consumption compared to a full synthetic high-mileage of the same weight / viscosity.

Half a quart per 1000 miles is a bit too much, try the viscosity for which this engine was originally created - 5W30 and measure the result, if it is half a quart per 3000 miles you can leave it, if it is more, then something needs to be done.
